Wiring diagram for stock am/fm cassette for a 1986
I sold my 57 and picked up a 1986 GMC Wrangler that has all the options.
I am starting the restoration to stock. I have the originaI GM digital tuner stereo with am/fm cassette that I want to reinstall but the previous owner cut out the harness end and wired up a din style stereo. I don't have the harness plug that plugs into the back of the original stereo so I don't know which wire goes to which pin in the back of the original factory stereo. Does anyone have a schematic showing which color wire goes to which pin in the back of the factory stereo. Thanks!!!!! |

The wiring diagrams hatzie posted here should help --> http://67-72chevytrucks.com/vboard/s...d.php?t=545416
Also, if you look real close at the radio's metal case, most of them have a pinout diagram stamped right into the top and/or bottom cover. Sometimes they're a bit faint and hard to see at first. I believe you'll need to get a set of connector plugs like these --> http://www.ebay.com/itm/Radio-Stereo...sories&vxp=mtr to splice onto the wires that the PO cut so you can plug them into the GM radio. These connectors were pretty common on a lot of GM vehicles from the late 70's up into the 80's so they shouldn't be too hard to find at a junkyard. The digital tuner radio you have will most likely have an additional 2-wire plug sticking out the back. The orange wire on that goes to a constant battery source and the brown wire is a dimming signal for the digital display that gets wired into the tail/parking light circuit. |

Re: Wiring diagram for stock am/fm cassette for a 1986
Thank you Ray! The problem I have is that the stock stereo does have the pin outs on the top of the radio but it does not list the corresponding color of wire, so I know as an example the location for the LH front speaker wire but I don,t know which color of wire it is, i.e green, blue, ??????, so I am staring at a bundle of cut wires with mulitple colors and I don't know which wire goes to which pin out?????????????????????

As Ray said. A PDF of the Factory 1986 CK 10-30 GM wiring diagrams is in the thread he linked... The same thread is in my sig.
These aren't the partial diagrams you find in Haynes, Chilton, Motor, ... Every wiring color, wire gauge, circuit number, and GM connector number for every option available that year is in those diagrams.
