Nuetral Safety Switch
Can anyone tell me how to wire up a nuetral safety switch for a 68 chevy auto on the column?
Thanks |

If you have the automatic wire harness it is just a matter of plugging in the starter solenoid and the back up light wires. If you don't have an auto setup, then you will need to cut in a female plug in the starter solenoid wire. If it was a three speed on the column there should be an existing harness with a plug that will plug into the switch.

It was a 3sp originally and I cannot find the backup light wires for it. How would I cut in a wire to the starter? Sorry newbie here.

The starter solenoid wire is a large purple wire coming from the starter solenoid up to the switch through the firewall connector. If you can find it that is the one you want to cut the connector into.
I will try to get a pic for you for illustration purposes. Jim |

Here is a pic of a stock harness for the neutral safety switch. If you look carefully at the picture you can see the large purple wire between the fuse block and the firewall plug. On your harness you don't have the double plug, but that is what you need to wire in for your neutral safety switch.
On your harness if you can locate the purple wire, cut it and solder in the double plug with a pigtail long enought to reach the neutral safety switch. I may have a double plug with pigtails if you don't have one available which you can have for shipping. Good luck! Jim |
