input wanted for installing dual tanks

I have a 68 c10 swb stepper. I was looking at the choke delete in my dash thinking i should put something there. Here is my idea. If i put a blazer tank between the rails and do the side marker fuel filler, why couldn't I keep my tank in the cab and get the valve and other misc. from a 73-87 that had dual tanks
. And use a wiper switch where the choke delete was to swap between the 2 tanks?? low position for 1 tank and high for the other. Any input would be appreicated before i start collecting parts i won't use. THANKS

Re: input wanted for installing dual tanks

If my memory serves me, the later trucks with dual tanks (I'm not sure which years) had a rocker switch and a solenoid to switch the tanks. If you used that setup, you wouldn't need the separate valve. I'm not sure about the wiper switch, as I think the rockers were DPDT (double pole, double throw). I'd just look up a wiring diagram to make sure.

Re: input wanted for installing dual tanks

You can run two tanks without a dash switch and most saddle tanks were like that. All you really need is a manual selector valve for the fuel lines. You can even use a fuel "off" position if wanted.

The period dash switchs were used for the fuel gauge selection on the factory aux tanks and a least one accessory kit we have found. For what you are thinking a stock NL2 aux fuel tank switch would be perfect for selecting the gauge only. In fact the whole installation is in the assembly manual and would make a good road map for the installation. The rear tank would in fact be nearly identical to the factory N18 rear aux tank.

But the later trucks did use a dash switch to run both the electric selector valve and gauge wiring.
