S10 Gas Tank Solution
I didn't want my tank in the cab with me and apparently I have mounted my cab a little lower than I had anticipated. So, my S10 tank would not fit under my cab. To fix this, I ordered a 1965 Mustang 16 gallon tank and built a frame out of 1 1/2 inch angle iron. The bed support cross member was in the way to which I drilled out the factory rivets and flipped the cross member over. I did have to cut the cross member in half to remove it. Once installed I welded it back together after bolting it back in place. The tank clears the x member. All in all, it turned out better than I had thought it would. Now I can put my bed on for the final time. Not pictured is that I covered the original rear center filler inlet and moved it to the front corner behind the driver.

Re: S10 Gas Tank Solution
Well it looks fantastic.
Great Job! So where will the filler cap be? I want to take the tank out of my cab, but I really like having the filler cap right there on the cab corner. I know it's impractical, that's why I'm looking for other good ideas for mounting the tank. |

Re: S10 Gas Tank Solution
A friend of mine used a Mustang tank under the rear floor of his 51 delivery, fits like GM made it that way.

Re: S10 Gas Tank Solution
Did you use the Mustang sending unit? If so what gauges are you using? I have the same tank to install in my 51 and haven't decided whether to use the Mustang sending unit and try to find compatable gauges or put in the correct sending unit for the factory gauges.

Re: S10 Gas Tank Solution
Forgot to ask, what did you do for venting the tank?

Re: S10 Gas Tank Solution
I did the same thing but in the rear of the bed. Running autometer ford gauge and a really cool chrome flip top marine gas fill that is vented. Nice job never thought to mount in in the front of the bed. Are you running a drive shaft loop just for that extra safety, being over the shaft?

Re: S10 Gas Tank Solution
No loop, but it the d/s did come loose, the inverted cross member would stop it from hitting the tank.
