Been Dreaming/Planning about working on my Burb again
Lately, I've been wanting a vehicle that's better suited to use as a family hauler/daily driver. I'm almost done getting my 60 GMC truck road worthy...my health has really slowed my progress on this tho. I have a 67 suburban that's been sitting ever since I brought it home and I think I'm going to try and get that going after I finish up the few things my GMC needs. I was going to try and do an engine swap on my 83 Z28, but I think I am going to hold off on that...I like the car but I'm not sure I want to keep it as a long term project.
So I'm thinking I will use my 350 originally planned for the Z28 in my 67 Burb and then for a transmission I will either use an NV-3500 or maybe a TH-400. The Burb currently has an SM-420 in it and I'm leaning towards the NV-3500 because it has overdrive...I just hope it will hold up to pulling a camper trailer I plan on getting with my tax return soon. I found a screamin deal on a 30ft airstream. Thanks for letting me ramble, here's a pic of the burb the day I brought her home. ![]()

Re: Been Dreaming/Planning about working on my Burb again
I'll post up pics as I make progress. Unfortunately, right now the weather and my health have really been slowing me down. Every time I go outside and I see my GMC and the Burb sitting just waiting for some attention....it's frustrating at times.
Another little pick-me-up is I might have the opportunity to buy that trailer later on this year.....I'm hoping I can seal the deal on that.

Nice Burb. Work on getting yourself healthy and when better weather gets here you will be ready to go.

Re: Been Dreaming/Planning about working on my Burb again
Thanks!!! I can't wait to get it going....it's only been on the back burner for 6 years now and a little while longer probably won't hurt. Like I said earlier I've been wanting a wagon and this will fit the bill perfectly once I get it going....and I won't have to buy another vehicle...lol
Oh yeah, I've been really trying to take care of myself thru my treatment (going thru hepatitis C treatment) and listening to my body, part of that is to try and be active and lately that has been difficult to do...fatigue has been kicking my butt. I did get some good news last week, I was at RVR at 4 weeks, meaning the meds pretty much knocked it in to remission at the 4 week point....I'm on week 12 now and have 12 more to go.

Re: Been Dreaming/Planning about working on my Burb again
overdrive is the way to only way to go these days. and even trailer towing is not too much of a strain on a trans if you don't abuse it, run good fluid, proper cooling (on an automatic), etc.
i also recommend a front sway bar if not already equipped and front disc brakes. Last edited by capev86; 02-05-2013 at 11:49 PM. |

Re: Been Dreaming/Planning about working on my Burb again
We pull a 25' travelux (the cdn airsteram) with our 68 suburban. The 3:73 and a 28" tire keep up under 65 mph.. od would be nice just so we could go faster. Even a taller tire jusst for hwy would be work better. Sure does get alot of looks. You will have alot of fun pulling a airstream..go get it

o/d is primarily for solo driving or if you have a lot of flat highway and plenty of power to spare. also, why the heck are you in such a hurry when towing? leave a little earlier and keep it at or under 60mph (100kmh). driving solo is dangerous enough and there are so many more variables in play when you have a 45 foot rig. your wallet will thank you if nothing else! I agree with the overdrive, ideally I would like to put a 4L80 in there but I can't afford it and I already have the NV-3500. Not sure about the tire size yet, I have a nice set of 10" wide ralleys in storage set aside for it and I also need to figure out the rear ratio....all I know is the SPID says it's supposed to be a posi. Thanks for all the well-wishes. It's been a rough road (tho not as rough as what others on similar treatment go thru) dealing with the side affects of the meds, but I'm already feeling better than ever before....my friends say I'm looking better too (not sure how, I'm pretty ugly) and that my skin color has drastically improved. Guess I was starting to turn yellow.
