Over charged?

Guys i have some ?'s on invoice 293. I was quoted a flat fee of 1200.00 to install a vintage air system on a 1968 chevy sub that originally had no air. Now on invoice 295 page 3 i'm being charged again? I have several other issues with other items regarding labor hours. I'm not a 100% happy with the quality of a few things and the feeling of being way overcharged is something thats just hard to digest.

Re: Over charged?

Wow those are some nice detailed invoices!!! A lot better than most people get.

What are your exact questions? If they quoted $1,200 for Vintage Air install with your OEM compressor, then yes I agree the extra $130 needs to be removed from the bill.

Thumbs down Re: Over charged?

I wouldn't be paying them nothing until they corrected the bill. If you have proof of the $1200.00 quote then by all means go sit down and tell them to forget it.
$100.00 may let them slid if he gives me a honest answer, $900 ant going to happen no way!

It sucks not being able to hear!

LWB trucks rule, if you don't think so measure your SWB!
After talking to tech support at Air Lift I have found out that the kit I need is 60811. Per the measurements I gave them. Ride height of truck inside spring and inside diameter of springs.

Looks like the AC things are NC on the $975 line? Looks like you are being charged $1,200 for the VA install plus some for incorporating non standard VA parts.

I see this a lot on here.Mostly it's with paint but the same tactic is used in many indutries.Always get a quote that is written with Itemized details of the work and quality of work.Make sure you have a copy of it and hold their feet to the fire. Many companies bid to get the job then start tacking fees etc on to make a profit.
I hope you can work this out but be careful.Once a mechanic has done work, most states allow for a mechanics lein on the vehicle if they are not paid.

Re: Over charged?

I am reading it as he is charging you 15 hours to:
install inner and outer fenders on the right side
install keyless entry and push button start system
install dash lighting dimmer switch
install Dakota Digital cluster and bezel
Fire engine to test ignition systems

What was the shop owner's response when you asked them about the quality issues you have and the sections you feel you were overcharged on?

Re: Over charged?

Wouldn't it make more sense to talk with the guy that made the bill out and did the work? If you feel you are being overcharged, have him explain it.

I agree. He basically destroyed that dash and the value of your truck by buchtering that vent. To replace it, if you can find a decent uncut dash, will cost you at least $500 or more for labor alone. I'd file against him and take him to small claims court. Take lots of pics.

You will definitely notice it if the vent is in the right spot. I just did that install on my truck a few weeks ago. There is a small gap between the vent and the dashpad where you should see painted metal.

Re: Over charged?

I don't see anything wrong with it either. "N/C billed on 293" means that you were not charged for those things, they were billed under the invoice 293. 15 hours seems reasonable for the rest of the stuff on that list.

The only thing I see an issue with is the $130, but if you didn't mention you would be using a part not included in the VA kit, like a factory compressor, then I could see the extra $130. Did you install a 5.3 or something? I can't see using an old GM compressor compared to a new sanden the kits come with, unless you're using a modern GM engine.

I agree that the cut looks like complete ass. I would be pissed off about that. The kit COMES WITH A TEMPLATE!

Re: Over charged?

Like so:

But it looks like he may be right, my dash pad appears to come right down to the top of the vent. Still doesn't excuse that crappy cut!

yes a 6.0....ALSO on invoice 293(1st pic) i was billed 18.5 hours to install wiring harness, Digital cluster and wiring. So when you refer to "rest of stuff" it leaves 15 hours to install fender, dimmer switch? Push button start also on invoice 295 page 2 ( 4th pic)

Don't know... I have a 23" screen and I can still barely read them. I don't know what recourse you have. I do all my own crap so I don't have to deal with this kind of stuff!!! Best of luck with it, I hope you can work it out with them!

Re: Over charged?

That cut is horrible, you have some recourse there, not much but some. As for being charged twice or double, I don't see it. Not saying you have not been over charged, just not charged twice for the same thing.

Re: Over charged?

I think the cut is horrible, however, it looks to me like the "extra" $130 was talking to VA tech support to make sure how to make the VA kit work with something other than the VA supplied compressor. Unless I am reading it wrong I dont think there was an overcharge. The 15hrs looks like install of body parts, etc... Any shop will charge for their time, wether it is working on your vehicle of using time with tech support during an aftermarket install. Bill looks legit to me.
