Dana 60 Front Axle DRW to SRW?

I'm currently working on swapping my 1/2 ton into a 1 ton SRW but have ran into a problem with the front axle. The front axle is out of an 87 1 Ton GMC and has the dually hubs on it. What do I have to do to convert this to SRW? I was looking over it and it seems as the studs that hold the hub to the rotor are about the same pattern and spacing. Could they just be un-bolted to get the stock track width? If anyone has any experience with this I'd greatly appreciate it! I've attached some images of said hub/rotor on Dana 60.

Thanks in advanced!

Re: Dana 60 Front Axle DRW to SRW?

There is no free lunch. The hub is where the wheel beraings are. the brake rotot bolts to hub. To convert to single rear wheel type the hubs must be changed along with bearings and races. Single rear wheel D60 hubs are kinda hard to find. The military CUCV pickups used them. Try surpluss dealers. Just mayve you can get a whole front D60 and 14 bolt rear, both in single rear wheel configuration. By the way ther is a way to make a dual rear wheel truck into a single rear wheel. It will just look a little weard, but the rear will track with front and the wheel rims will all be the same...

Re: Dana 60 Front Axle DRW to SRW?

Well that rules out that option then.. I've searched the part yards around here and none of them have any SRW Dana 60s. I've read that I can machine the hubs down and turn them into SRW hubs, but it seems to have durability issues. So my only logical choice would be to find a source for a set of Dana 60 SRW hubs. Any other advice would be appreciated.

Re: Dana 60 Front Axle DRW to SRW?

My 88 V30 is a dual rear wheel truck since new. It has also run single rear wheels since new. I have installed 4" thick spacers on the rear hubs. The rear wheel rims mount in the same direction as the front and track with the front. If the truck is required to carry a heavy load or use, the wheel spacers can come off. The truck is now over 25 years old with over 50,000 miles of hard use and has had no rear wheel bearing problems.

The only difference is the hub assy. I think even the rotor is the same

the rotors are the same between drw and srw, the difference is in the hubs but you can for some $$$ get the DRW hubs turned down at a machine shop into srw hubs some guys have done that but IMO i wouldnt bother, the hassle alone isnt worth it, go on ebay or any 4wd aftermarket parts store and they sell new hub housings for i think 150$ each not including races and bearings though or rotors so you will be looking at a 300$+ bill just for the hub housings unless you find some guys on 4wd forums like Pirate4x4 selling used ones for a little less but going rate out there is about 100$+ per hub setup

part number 15635530 from gmpartsdirect.com is the cheapest way i have found to convert from drw to srw. the part number i gave is for a srw hub, rotor, and 8 studs.
