Flaming River column install questions

Hey all,

I am in the process of installing a FR #20007 tilt column.

The stock column has a slot in the top of the column to fit the "nub" in the arch of the underdash column support. I have heard of people recutting this slot when relocating a stock column. I am very leary of trying to cut this slot in my new column as I know the signal wiring runs on the top side of this column.

So what have you guys done? Grind the "nub" off? If so, are the 2 clamps sufficient without?

Unrelated to this, are the contacts in the arched (original) signal connector the same as in the flat (later) connector? Want to know if I can just pull the terminals to swap the connector bodies?

Thanks in advance,
Shane
