Changing Engine Mounts - The 1947 - Present Chevrolet & GMC Truck Message Board Network

So I've been installing a power steering setup and I figured while I was wrenching down there I might as well change my motor mounts and tranny mount. I got the driver side motor mount and transmission mount changed and I'm glad I did because they both came out in two pieces. They were totally shot.

My question is this, the passenger side motor mount seems harder to get to because of the fuel pump. I can't find a way to get the front bolt out no matter how many u-joints and extensions I use. Should I take the engine stand out and then change the mount? How have you guys done it? Sorry for the silly question. I usually have no problem taking things apart.

The 383 in my truck would rip the driver's stock mount in two anytime I punched it. I switch to a poly set I got at Summit. It was an amazing difference!

I used an engine hoist to do one side at a time. I secured the chain to an accessory hole on the front of the head. Did the same on both sides.

Thanks for the advice but I don't have a hoist. My engine is just a stock 350 and the only time I spin the tires is when I'm on loose gravel or ice.

Anyone have any other suggestions?

Pull the fuel pump.

There is a 3/8" bolt with a 9/16" head pointing to the front of the truck that plugs a hole that was orginally for a motor mount used on vehicles before the side mounts. Remove this bolt and find a longer one. Install the longer bolt in order to keep the fuel pump rod in place. *LIGHTLY* tighten it in order to hold the fuel pump pushrod in place. *DO NOT OVERTIGHTEN IT OR YOU WILL BEND THE FULE PUMP PUSHROD. Now remove the pump and change the mount. Reinstall the pump, remove the bolt and replace it with the original bolt.

Well I guess I could remove the pump without disconnecting the hoses huh?
