emission delete

Hey everyone just picked up a 85 GMC with 4.3 manual trans. Going to change the valve cover gaskets. Well stared taking vac lines off and a lot were broken or just old and brittle. So I just started taking them off. Now thinking maybe I should have not do this. Been looking for post about deleting all this stuff but am finding like only one post that talks about doing this to a v6. Someone said will have to get a new distributor but did not tell why. This is the first V6 I have had. I have a vette that I pulled everything off with no probs. But sems like on the V6 its more of a pain. I got a new carb, Going to weld the tubes coming out of the manifolds. But what do I have to do about the distributor? Any one with the 4.3 take all the stuff off please help
Thanks Jay

Re: emission delete

You should only need a vacuum line off you distributor to the carb and if you have vacuum operated vents. Most of the lines how from the motor to another spot on the motor and a lot of it you don't need. Chiltons manuals have vacuum diagrams I would get one if those.

Re: emission delete

I'm not too familiar with v6's, do you have any pics of the motor and engine bay?

Re: emission delete

sounds to me like you're talking about two different things, the only reason i can think of to replace the carb and dist. is to get rid of the esc and mixture control. if you want delete the emissions all you need to do is remove the smog pump, egr, and associated vaccum lines. the electronic spark control and factory carb should still work correctly with no emission system. hope this helps.
