Angry 96 vortec 305 missing under a load

Hey guys, I've tried searching for a solution to my problem but can't find exactly what i am looking for. Ive got a 96 with a vortec 305 that is missing and studdering under regular driving load. seems to idle fine but won't Rev higher than 3k. I have replaced the rotor, cap, wires, coil, etc sensor alternator (un related), fuel pump which had a ground issue (fixed), fuel filter, mass air and I think thats it so far. It was throwing multiple misfire codes and ETC codes. after replacing the ETC sensor, the problem is still happening. I havent checked the codes again because I dont have a personal scanner and I dont trust it to get far from the house after leaving me stranded. Any ideas would help. Thanks

Did you make sure it has the plug wires in the correct locations?

Have you ever done anything with the front O2s?

You have to see if it has any cylinders misfiring

Re: 96 vortec 305 missing under a load

I haven't messed with the o2s yet but it wasnt throwing a code for them either. From what I've put together, seems like everyone who has replaced their cap and rotor has had the same problem. Kinda makes me wonder if there is something to that. I'm also wondering if maybe a wire in the distributor itself might be worn out, or somehow it got thrown out of time a lil bit. But I hadn't touched the distributor except for popping off the cap and rotor. All the wires are in order too. Monday I'm gonna look at the tps and see if that might be the issue

Re: 96 vortec 305 missing under a load

The sensor in the distributor is the camshaft sensor and nothing else. If it were damaged, would should see a P1345 code at least for a camshaft/crankshaft corrolation error. What is your fuel pressure? How many miles? Check for spark at each cylinder with a spark checker, should be strong, bright blue/white. Low fuel pressure will cause multiple issues. Needs to be 60 psi. If the engine has a bunch of miles (200k +), the distributor gear is known to wear and cause issues when the engine is under a load.

Re: 96 vortec 305 missing under a load

ok, so just an update. Today i spent 300.00 buck on sensors and it did pick up a bit but still having the same issue. The guy at the parts store said a buddy replaced the spider injectors and it fixed it. I however am not ready to drop another 350.00 for another spider injector set. So I took mine out andtried to clean it as best i could without tearing it up. there was a lot of rusty colord funk in the screen behind the valve that goes to the return line, not sure if that was causing issues but it was almost completely blocked. I havent got it all the way back together but i will tomorrow and let yall know how it goes.

Ok so I cleaned the spider re installed it and when I went to star it it locked up as if the battery was dead. I pulled the left bank plugs and the 7 hole was full of fuel! What in the world did I do wrong here?

There really is no cleaning of the spider injectors. They are a known issue thats why there was an updated version produced to eliminate the issues of the poppet nozles.

Re: 96 vortec 305 missing under a load

did you check the FPR to see if it's leaking. That is far more common a problem then the injectors.
