Do I Have To Get New Wheels??

I am in the process of completing a disc brake upgrade to the front wheels
of my 69 C-10 P/U. I've heard that I may have to have new wheels due to
possible interference issues with my old rally wheels. Anybody have any experience in this regard?

Re: Do I Have To Get New Wheels??

Rally wheels were used on later trucks and didn't come on 67-72's so chances are that the backspace is sufficient for caliper clearance. 4" backspace should work.

Re: Do I Have To Get New Wheels??

So you're converting from 6 lug to 5 lug correct?

Re: Do I Have To Get New Wheels??

6 lug steelies (original wheels) are not disk brake compatible - the taper on the inside face is canted and interferes with the caliper. It's not necessarily a backspacing issue.

Are you using truck or car rallies? (i.e. are you retaining 6 lug or converting/converted to 5, etc). Reason I ask - I can't confirm for you that old vette rallies will clear, but all truck rallies will clear (stock size disk + caliper combo). But, truck rallies are 6 lug, car rallies are 5 lug.

You mention your old rallies - they are definitely newer than your truck, and rallies do fit with disk brakes, assuming you're going with a stock-size rotor, etc. BIG brake kits will not fill rallies. But, if you're buying a kit for stock size application, rallies will be fine.

Re: Do I Have To Get New Wheels??

My dad's '69 has a stock '72 front disc setup with 15x8 corvette rallys and they fit fine. Not sure what route you're going...

Re: Do I Have To Get New Wheels??

I bought the truck in May of 02 and it had the "rallys" on it then. I'm keeping the 6 lug configuration. I guess the only way to tell is to bolt 'em on and see.
Will let you know what I find out.

Re: Do I Have To Get New Wheels??

I put on Rally's after I did a disc brake swap and didn't have any issues. I've heard that the 15x8's come really close and sometimes hit the lower control arm when you turn. Mine are 15x7 and I don't have any clearance issues, caliper or control arm.
