Will a 700R4 from a 6.2 Diesel work well with a SBC with little or no modifications? I heard that it will shift too soon. It is supposed to have a 2500 stall?

Any comments?

Can these Trannys be shifted into 1st gear with a column shift?

2500 stall on a diesel? I thought diesels wanted the low end rpm. That is where they make there power. Or did someone add the torque converter later.

All in all, I think that trans is basically the same.

I'm not sure about the stall, The guy told me there was a 2500 stall in the diesels, but now that I think of it, you are right, they should have a lower stall than a gas one, if they are different.

It should be the same...if anything, it'd be a strong version. The 2500 stall deal is probably inacurate, but if you get one for a V-6 S-10 Blazer, I'm told it is something like 2500.
The tranny will shift pretty early onless you do some work to it. You figure the Deisel engine red lines at 3500 or so.

The 700R4 in my 72 was from a diesel. Right now I have a big block in front of it. You will have to change the TV cable to one from a gas motor. Also a buddy of mine that works for a trans shop said it should have around an 1800 stall stock...

I dont know about if it'll fit comming from a diesel BUT I have my 700r4 shifted by my factory column shifter & I couldnt figure out how to get it to go into first. With the OD you addan extra click so theres not enough travel in the stock shifter for first. Honestly, I never use it anyway & the gains far outweigh the losses. Enjoy your 700r4.

My transmission buddy told me that the diesel version should me more stout than a gas version. I know the one in my dad's 84 truck first blew at 75000 miles, again at 80000 miles and was finally replaced at 85000 miles with a crate trans. The diesel version in my truck has over 200000 with never being worked on more than a regular service. I personally would go with the diesel version and replace the TV cable. Just me .02 though...

Sounds like a no-brainer, I thing I'll jump on the 700R4 bandwagon.

That's all I have to do to mine. The diesel TV cable is just too short to use. everything else seams to match up fine...
