Electric choke?
I have a 4barrel quadrajet, Im not sure the exact model, but it does not have a choke at all. I want to put an electric one on, but any kind of kit I have found is for Holleys, edlebrocks, not quads. Do yall know of anywhere i can find a kit, and is there anything else I would need to get/know when installing a new choke?

Re: Electric choke?
Can you be a little more specific with this statement? Does it have the choke butterfly, choke housing, linkage? If not you'll need to find a carb to gather parts from. If yes then Edelbrock part number EDL-1932 is a kit to change your Q-Jet to an electric choke.

Re: Electric choke?
It has nothing at all. Just the small screw that would go the the fast idle cam I believe? No linkages, nothing. I dont have the truck right now, so I cant take pictures, sorry.

Re: Electric choke?
You probably have the divorced choke with the spring and heat stove in the intake manifold. Also you probably don't have the vacuum choke pull offs. My advice would be to set up a manual choke or buy an edelbrock with the electric choke set up on it.
I'd also make a signature with my truck details in it.

Re: Electric choke?
So the picture is what the passenger side looks like right now. Evidently when the PO rebuilt this, the inlet where the fuel line attaches was stripped, so the whole base was replaced. So there is nothing in the way of a choke anymore. He didnt care, but these cold starts are getting to be a pain.
This is what I was thinking of installing- http://www.summitracing.com/parts/jet-201355 I just dont see how to attach it, or where the thermostat will attach? Will this work? And how would I set this up? Or am I better off just finding a manual choke kit? |

Re: Electric choke?
Pic doesn't show whether you have a choke butterfly on top.
As Lee H mentioned your best bet is to find a carb at a salvage yard or on Ebay to take parts from. I see some on Ebay and Craigs for sale for parts only pretty cheap.

Re: Electric choke?
Also, do I need a choke pull off with an electric choke? Sorry, I still am learning about chokes, and Im not really sure what the pull off is for.

Re: Electric choke?
From what I gather you have a mismatch of carburetor and intake with missing parts on both. The carburetor is not designed for the kit from summit. It is designed for the divorced choke setup in the pictures I posted . The choke spring is mounted in the intake in a horizontal chamber and the linkage rod comes straight up from that to the choke linkage on the carb, which is missing on your carb. See my pics above.
Here is another one. Here is a kit from Edelbrock I found on EBay Your intake is made for a thermostat coil and it comes out of a slanted chamber and goes to a linkage on the side of the carb which you don't have and is similar to the above type. It is slightly different from the top picture. Notice the wire on the bottom of the picture with the screw. It is a manual choke wire. The newer style has a heat tube which I believe comes off of the exhaust manifold to a black coil, It resembles the electric choke on the newer carbs. The kit you saw from Summit is made to replace it and it uses electric current to heat the spring and release the choke. You drill out the rivets and pull the spring out then install the electric kit with the screws then hook up the linkage and wire it to 12 volts key on source. This picture shows it and the red cap is where the heat tube would connect if you had one. The easiest solution would be a manual choke kit if the vehicle runs great. If not then I would just find a carb with the electric choke and change it out.
