I6 292 + T5 complete drivetrain

Just bought a 6.5 Turbo Diesel + NV4500 donor vehicle and am now starting to prepare for the swap. Target vehicle is my 1967 C20, currently running a 292 with Clifford 4bbl (Holly 390) and mild RV cam plus a rebuilt T5 transmission (from '83 Camaro 305 + S10 tail housing). Both the rebuilt engine and transmission were purchased from Tom Langdon, everything runs fine, but 10 MPG is killing me, so I am dropping in a diesel to double my mileage. Less than 10,000 miles on this drivetrain. I can also include the exhaust to the tailpipe.

Trying to figure out reasonable expectations for selling the drivetrain as a whole, or whether to split it up. I know most folks want V8s, so the market for a 292 is not so broad. I do have several additional parts such as OEM power steering pump brackets and a brand new, but uninstalled HEI (one wire) I6 distributor that I would include.

Re: I6 292 + T5 complete drivetrain

I just sold a rebuild (unused) T5 for $600 in March. It had a WC case from an 88 firebird and an S10 tailshaft.

I bought the 292 in my '63 Nova for for $700. It was a rebuilt engine with zero miles. It had been on ebay several times and never made it up to the reserve.

If you decide to sell your setup, let me know and I can see if I can find someone that is interested.

I have a 292 and a 83 Camaro T5 in my 68 and I average about 8-10 mpg too.

Re: I6 292 + T5 complete drivetrain

I am very much interested in your driveline that I intend to have installed in a 1938 Chevrolet Master Deluxe 4 door that I recently purchased in New Hampshire -- I just need to arrange shipping to Northern Virginia where I live.

I've talked with Tom Langdon and to get the 292/T5 combination into the 38 will require a little shoehorning and some custom work but I've got people who can handle that for me. [My mechanical skills are quite limited!]

I've sent you a PM with a few questions. I certainly hope to hear you from soon on this -- one way or the other!

My guess is that the author of the thread is not coming to this site very often. I don't believe the drivetrain is for sale anymore. I certainly didn't end up with it!
