Throttle linkage through firewall

Is there a bushing or something?? I have something loose, when I tap the throttle, it twist and I have to pull up on it to idle it back down. Its in the linkage. The spring on the carb is tight enough, and I can work the throttle all day from the carb and it not stick. Its only when its tapped on the pedal. How does everything work when it goes through the firewall? I can't find anything anywhere...

Anyone? When I tap the pedal it does come back to about 1200-1400. And when I pull up on the pedal it comes back down to where its supposed to be. It looks like where the linkage comes through the firewall into the engine bay the rod twist and comes out a little. What would make it do this? Going to tear it apart tomorrow, I am just wondering what to expect or what the problem may be

I would check the linkages on the carb and make sure they are not bound up, should be a return spring of some sort, also the actual throttle pedal I believe, but don't quote me on this, has a return spring under that dash. Other than that just check the cable isn't binding anywhere.

Still a pretty new carb, and nothing is around the return spring on the carb. I do believe you are right about the spring being somewhere under the dash. That is what I am trying to figure out. It has me pretty confused. I've looked on Brothers and a few other places to try and give me an idea but can't find jack

I would check classic parts of America.. (I think that is it). I ordered my break peal return spring through them, its probably the same part. I can measure mine if you need. The springs are up pretty far under the dash but easy to see.

Also, are all the supports the same? They offer and 71 and up rod support. Why do they start it with 71??

Only thing I can think of is 71 started power brakes, so maybe the rod the pedals are on is different? I could check my 69, but it would be tomorrow because it has about 2ft of snow on it right now.

That could be it. But my 70 has power brakes, it was added on to it after bought. They look the same, three bolt pattern and all that. I am tearing mine apart in the morning to see what all everything looks like and just going to order everything and replace it while at it.

In 71 they went to a cable linkage 70 and earlier is a throttle rod There are no springs inside the cab they are on the carb. You may have some loose bolts on the mounting plate that holds the pedal rod to the firewall. Another thing on the 70 and eailer if it is adjusted wrong the rod will ride to high on the pedal itself and stick

I wonder if cars of the era used the same mount? Might take a look at some old chevelles, novas, etc. maybe a parts supplier for cars would have it if they're the same? I couldn't really see the issue with yours (im on my phone) but maybe you could use some JB weld to fill in the damage and reshape it with a dremel or file.

...or make bushing(s) using copper tubing(or brake line tubing)...may hafta "JB" your bushing(s) to your 'pad'...or use pre-punched hardware strap from Lowes using stove bolts to bolt the strap over the tubing(bushing) and to your pad...or make 2 tiny u-bolts (heat and bend small threaded rod [smaller than 1/8: they have some size #8 and #10, regardless what they tell you: JUST LOOK!!!] around a piece of your bushing-tube, held in a vise while heating/bending) to hold ends of bushing(s) to the pad...

You may hafta split your bushing(s), open up to go over your pedal, & then crimp back to 'fit'.
Bet you have the intuition to re-fab your pad!

I am going to pick up some jb weld tomorrow, and try fixing it by filling the hole. If that don't work, I'll try and go to a junk yard

Jb weld done the trick! Anyone have this problem, give it a shot
