Going to Fire it today!!!
So my grandpas truck is going to get fired up with the new engine today. It is the first engine I have built from the ground up. I can't wait but am nervous as hell... Lots of time money and effort into the motor. Hope I did it all right.
This was the motor just before install I will take pics tonight of it installed... Last time the truck moved was 7 years ago and 4 houses ago. I can't wait to get it running... Wish me luck... I have been worried all day.... Hoping I did it all right!

Re: Going to Fire it today!!!
Its a 350. Bored 30 over. I am running a pretty strong cam upgrade, Edlebrock intake. World Heads, roller rockers, a holley street avenger, and flowtech headers... It will definitely be stronger than stock... I would have to look back at my notes to cite left, duration etc...

Re: Going to Fire it today!!!
Looks really nice. I know that feeling of firing it for the first time. After 30 years of doing it, it does not go away. It is exciting to hear something you built come to life.
Words of Advise: Keep the fire extinguisher close by. Check for leaks right away, especially fuel. New and rebuilt engines, usually run hot for a while. Keep a close eye on the coolant and when the t-stat opens. I would run water in it until has went through some heat cycles. Then replace with the right mixture of anti freeze. With a new cam you need to break it in, so run it a 2,000 rpm for at least 10 minutes. And most important, Enjoy it. |

Re: Going to Fire it today!!!
So it did not go as planned. I have 2 issues. 1 is the fuel supply line to my carb is leaking. It is a holley street avenger and I was using the pre-bent metal fuel supply lines(the ones that have to line up just right. Well the factory rear support for the ac unit blocked it from lining up corrently even with a carb spacer.
So I am going to go with the more expensive set up that is made with braided steel line. So That I can have a little flew in the system. The second issue: I need to figure out my exhaust really fast. I had some cherry bomb that we were going to run straight off the header and then use the exhaust vacuum hoses to vent/further quiet the exhaust up. Well The passenger side fit well and and the drivers side wouldn't go due to the tranny cross member. Thus I am picking up my exhaust this weekend and installing it. I will be back at the shop Wednesday... In all honesty it could have been fired, but I would hate to have something not right and not be able to hear it because the lack of exhaust... So now I really need to figure out what mufflers to run!!!
