Re: POLL: Which engine setup for Daily Driver?
I voted for the 5.3and 4l60e combo. my reasons are that you can get a standalone wiring kit /w comp for 500 on ebay. its an easy swap to do. these are easy and cheap to find.(hell my neighbor is selling one for 1750 complete running set up). parts are easy to find. good on fuel and have a pretty good stock hp output of 295-325.

Re: POLL: Which engine setup for Daily Driver?
Ok everyone!! Thank you so much for all of your input and advice. As usual I took everything into consideration, realized how invaluable all of your advice and opinions were, and then went a completely different route!!!! So I just purchased 6.2 with 6l80 out of a 2008 Escalade with 48k miles on the clock. I'm sure I overpayed compared to what some of you can get engines for, but its from a really reputable yard and comes complete with extras (radiator and efans, oil cooler, tranny cooler, driveshaft, and misc other things). Now comes the fun part!!! figuring the rest out! Thanks again for all of your support!

Re: POLL: Which engine setup for Daily Driver?
Ok Shawn, the least you can do for squandering all this sage advice is start a build thread. I'm curious to see how this combo does.

The 5.3 is a fairly easy swap if converted to carbureation. They are quite plentiful as well. Good gas milage, good power, and good dependability. Posted via Mobile Device

Re: POLL: Which engine setup for Daily Driver?
The GenIV motors should have a separate computer for the engine and the transmission. I am having a local (Las Vegas) shop help me with my GENIII 6.0 motor, but he swaps the 6.2/6L80e into Jeep JKs and has been featured in a bunch of magazines. He knows the details of the newer motors. He might be able to help... He's also has another members C10 in his shop for an LS1 swap... The only problem is that he's always busy...

All have their merits.I say go with an Edelbrock top end kit with fuel inj and add an 4l80 trans.

Re: POLL: Which engine setup for Daily Driver?
I'm doing the 5.3 swap right now. Lots of little things to take into consideration when doing the swap. Linkage. Getting your gauges to work. LS motors suck up oil through the PCV valve and it goes into the throttle body. Gas tank, fuel pump and fuel line set up.
I used an LS6 valley pan cover that relocates the the pcv valve and added a catch can to prevent oil getting into the throttle body. I had a tank made that has the electric pump built into the the tank with a proper ohm sending unit installed. Check the forums for water temp and oil pressure solutions. Research your computer and what you will need to remove to make it run. I'm not pessimistic but I do try to anticipate problems ahead of time. Good luck and I know you will have a great time doing your swap. |
