Possible new owner.

Hello,

I'm looking at a 71 suburban and was wondering if this is a good DD candidate. It has new floor boards rockers, and front clip. The rest of it has been blasted and epoxy primed. As you can see, still rust to take care of.

My issues so far in looking, is many of the parts needed for the body arent available as new patch panels. What are my options for body repair?

What would everyone value this suburban at? (I know its a general question..)

Its an inline 6 with th350 trans. How under powered are these?

Looking for a cool daily driver. Plan on a 5.3 swap down the road if i get it and using it to tow my chevelle.

Thanks!

Re: Possible new owner.

Welcome to the forum!

Those areas of rust on a burb are fixed using plain sheet metal stock, at least that's how mine was repaired. I haven't seen any patch panels for these areas for sale lately, but they are simple enough that plain flat stock sheet metal will be used to fix even by a semi pro body man.

It's an 8 lugger (3/4 ton) so your lowering options are kind of limited as compared to the 1/2 ton models, the half ton trucks are favored by the guys/gals that like to lower their rigs. That being said, that would drive the value to a prospective builder. Taking in all of the costs, and options involved in building a safe and smooth riding lowered burb.

The drive train is the lower end of the option list, and converting to V-8 will require proper engine stands on the frame.

Taking all that, and the condition.. Think about all of the labor costs, and the parts to make it a solid rig. That should give you a gauge as to what to offer.

But I see where you are standing on this, and it looks like a lot of little stuff which adds up quick on the cost out of pocket.

Re: Possible new owner.

I would suggest you expand your search. My sub has some rust issues but I picked it up for $1200. The body you see has not been touched.

Re: Possible new owner.

Welcome. It would be good to save that burb if it will fit your plans.

Re: Possible new owner.

Lots of good advice previously mentioned.

While there aren't many Burb-specific panels created, I believe you can make patch panels from truck and Blazer patch panels (LWB bedsides, door skins, etc.)

That looks like a good deal! The engine fire scares me a bit. Hopefully an engine harness and some hoses are all it would need. Looks in great shape

Re: Possible new owner.

OP dont know what your budget looks like but I got my suburban in link below for little more than what they are asking for the orange one.

http://67-72chevytrucks.com/vboard/s...d.php?t=545187.

Originally bought it for my wife but she decided she wanted something older so I added it to my collection. I too suggest you look around a bit more as there are several others out there. If you are willing to travel north I have seen a few in the chicagoland area.

Below is a link to one of them that if I did not already have one I would definitely be looking into purchasing.
