Anybody else buying up the HotWheels Blazers off Ebay?

I just scored my 2nd one for under 10 bucks shipped. This is a stock colored ochre/white 2wd, the 1st one I got a while back is a maroon 2wd one. I've been practicing on more generic HotWheels on how to drill out the rivets, take them all apart, and repaint to match a full size car, then reinstall everything.

No pics yet, but my first success was an old school BMW 2002 tii that was green with racing decals/numbers and white interior. It now matches my buddy's satin gunmetal/black interior car.

So which Blazer do I take apart and sand down? Going to be fun trying to convert the grill to a GMC. Hopefully I can find a 4X4 Hot Wheels with a similar wheelbase so when it goes back together it looks like my truck.

Thanks to whoever that guy was that made the scale crawler 69 Blazer...thats been my inspiration.

Re: Anybody else buying up the HotWheels Blazers off Ebay?

I've got quite a few of the Johnny Lightening Blazers I picked up at the stores. I've modified two of the Wix diecast blazers to match my current a past Blazer and I've got one of those in progress going 2wd. I haven't ever attempted to modify the Hot Wheels scale cars.

Post some pictures when you can. Where did you see the scale crawler?

This is quickly becoming an obsession. Why is a 34 year old man buying so many Hot Wheels that he refuses to take out of the packages? ...because I can can can!

Seriously though, I am not buying this one unless its still there next week. I'm giving myself a limit-2 per week, thats it.

The real problem now is which one do I cannibalize? The Ochre/white one with little detailing, or the maroon one with tailgate lettering and chrome detailing?

Only to one of them...

Drill out the rivets to separate the pieces. Sand/prep the body and repaint as my own truck. Do some unknown magic mojo work to convert the grill to a GMC, swap the chassis with a 4X4 truck one, and reassemble.

Basically ruin a perfectly good unopened Hot Wheels that may very well end up a collector (more than its 600%+ appreciated value today).

Re: Anybody else buying up the HotWheels Blazers off Ebay?

So I went to Fred Meyer today for some groceries...and of course ended up in the toy section. FYI, buy 2 get one 1 free sale price. So I ended up with 3 green stepsides, that I honestly have no use for-but figured they might be hard to find later (there were 2 more that I passed on). So on with the pics:

I'm thinking about destroying the ochre Blazer since the detail work just isnt there. I think I paid roughly 10 bucks each for the 2 Blazers, so cost wise I dont think it matters.

Here's what I did to a early 70's BMW 2002 tii. I should have taken before pics, but you can imagine what a nearly Crayola crayon green body would have looked like, with white interior, and race numbers and Hot Wheels logos here and there on the body.

Once I drilled the rivets out the bottom (which was difficult since my bits were dull and walked around a bit), I separated the pieces. My old Hot Wheels from my childhood are metal frame/chassis parts, this one however was plastic. Once I hot glue where the rivets once were, I'm sure it'll hold together fine. Just compression fit back together it fits just fine and doesnt fall back apart unless you fiddle with the axles/wheels.

Modeled after:

I'm gonna have to keep an eye out for those two blazer's. I've got the "norman rockwell" 2wd blazer, but the paint sure is ugly.

Re: Anybody else buying up the HotWheels Blazers off Ebay?

Those sell for more than I'm willing to pay just to sand down and repaint. Otherwise, yes-ugly enough to repaint. But the pricetag is too high for the name? Craaazy.

So I'm going to hold off on sanding down either of my Blazers until I find a similar wheelbase 4X4. If one of those cannot be found, then I may just leave the Blazers in the packages and let their $10 value stand.
