New Member, Old rusty truck
Well I just picked up a 72' GMC 1500 long box, thought I'd introduce myself. Don't know much about it, but it has tons of rust through. Luckily I have a talented autobody friend lol.
350, auto, runs, so that's good. shifter linkage at column is very soft, I will have to deal with that after the body work. Plans are to do a very budget based mild resto, Blitz Black, lower it on air, and make it a trailer puller for my custom VW squareback. Pics of truck... My plan is to get the cheapest jobber panels I can find, and used body parts. I want to do the earlier single round grill as well. Will any of the 67-72 grills and lights bolt up to this? Appreciate any help! Thanks! |

Re: New Member, Old rusty truck
Look in the parts listings here for the sheet metal and other parts you need as will as the grill you want. If you go to the single headlight (69-72 Chevy), you need to change the core support also. Also the front bumber is different on a GMC. Depending on 69/70 or 71/72 the parking lights will be in the grill on a 69/70 or in the bumber on a 71/72/ I would find a parts truck and buy the whole front clip. That way you have everything including nuts, bolts and clips.
Welcome and have fun. |

Welcome to the site. On the gmc if I remember uses chevy 67 - 68 core support and 69 to 72 won't fit unless you change the core support and front clip. Hopefully somebody will chime in and correct me if im wrong.

Re: New Member, Old rusty truck
So, if you're not too picky of signal light location, its not that hard to go to a single rounds setup. Good to know.
As for parts, I doubt I'll find much on the classifieds that's realistic to buy and ship, all the way up here to igloo country Alberta. But, I will keep my eyes open. |

They should line up I'm sure someone els will chime in. Just remember gmc fenders are different then chevy except 67 68 67 having no marker light if u have to replace them for some reason other than that they are pretty much interchangeable
