Quick carpet question, need some advice fast!!

So I am going to be purchasing the Rock Auto carpet kit from ACC for my truck and I have a couple of questions. First, I am looking to order the carpet kit for NO GAS TANK, states it doesn't go up the back wall, but goes up to it. My reasoning for doing this is that I eventually plan on pulling the tank out of the cab and going with my 90 GMC tank that I have sitting in wait. My big question is though, is does the carpet that is formed for the trucks WITH the tank in cab include the tank carpet cover? Any reason why I shouldn't get one over the other? My plan is, worse comes to worst, I just cut the piece off that would normally go where the tank is if I never get around to swapping the tank out. What do you guys think??

Here's their description:

ACC Part # 17899718020MB 80/20 Carpet with Mass Back for additional moldability, sound deadening, and insulation Color: OE Color - Gunmetal Gray (22)
REG CAB 2 WHEEL DRIVE LOW TUNNEL WITHOUT GAS TANK; GOES TO BACK WALL. DOES NOT GO UP BACK WALL; MOLDED
* Stocked in outlying warehouse--

BTW, just want to throw out there, Rock Auto is about $100 cheaper on the ACC carpet set than ACC is! It even lists the ACC part numbers!

Re: Quick carpet question, need some advice fast!!

The carpet to cover the in-cab tank is not included. Rock Auto has it listed separately. Originally, GM only used carpet over the tanks on bucket seat equipped trucks, and it was molded to the contours of the tank. The rear edge of the floor carpet for use with the in-cab tank is bound, so, I assume the carpet that would go to the back wall would be also. You could cut it and use it without binding at that edge if you choose to. In fact, that's what GM did in my original bucket seat truck which never even had carpet under the seats.

A video I saw, I think on ACC's website, shows a pretty neat way to put holes in the carpet for seat bracket attachment, seat belts, etc. It suggests using a hole saw IN REVERSE. I did that with my mass backed carpet which required about 25 holes it total for seats, console, belts, etc. I used an ice pick from underneath to mark the locations and either a 3/4" or 1" hole saw.

well, I went ahead and pulled the trigger on the carpet that goes to the back of the cab for no in-cab tank. I have a lot of other plans right now too....
