Where are your stereo speakers?

What creative ways have you placed your stereo speakers in a 67-72 cab?.....other than kick panels.

In the gas tank .....well in the area the gas tank used t o be I have removed the tank , infavor of a fuel cell in the rear, & am building a new backwall for the cab.....should be enough room to get a couple of 8" round, & a pair of 6x9s . I have a pair of small "tweeters " in the dash where the defrost ducts were. There sure isnt much room for speakers in a truck cab......crazyL

I cut holes in the door bottoms under where the door panel ends.

lets see in Jenna's 71 we started with them in a center console ! Then Jenna decided that she wanted the leg room when she sat next to me ! So now we have them in the doors and two 8" under the seat ! sounds good enough for me !

As for the '72 rebuild I am taking out the rear tank and adding a peice of ply wood and hving it all line-x into the cab that why it done not walk away !

I cry when I hear things like that. I know, I know... it's your damn truck and you'll do as you please. Hey, more power to you. I've just had to spend too much time fixing where some kid has hacked up the doors to cram his JaMmIn' $19.95 Kraco speakers in there I guess.

4" separates in the door PANELS! Now to go back to stock only requires new panels. Much better sound and imaging up higher. Single 10" under passengers side of seat. System rocks with 100x4 Crossfire amp, bridged 100x2, 200x1 into the single 10" free-air sub. (the back of the "box" is open.)

Two 6-1/2" Sony Xplod's in kickpanel pods......2 3" (maybe smaller??) Kenwood speakers under the dash in the factroy spot. Hooked up to a 200w Sony CD player....

And i am not happy with it. The system just dosen't sound that great....i think it is because the speakers are in weird places....i dunno. If i were to do it again....i would hack the doors for a pair of good 6x9's, and run the underdash speakers. I would spend some money and put a pair of 10's under the seat with a small amp, but i would rather put my money into engine/drivetrain upgrades, or body work. I am happy as long as i have a decent sounding CD player to lisetn too....but going fast puts a bigger smile on my face than tumping bass

PO did it.

PO cut out the door bottoms to fit 6 X 9's. I just put in decent 6 X 9 JBL's. Sound is not too great because the location is poor. I will have to fix the holes PO put in the doors and figure a better place to put the speakers.

Just put a nice set of Flowmasters on there and you'll forget all about the stereo! Of course, this is coming from the guy with a HUGE exhaust leak and a shortwave radio on the seat so take it with a grain of, ummm... salt lick.

I got some beautiful rust free doors from WES at classic heartbeat, but they had 6x9 holes in the bottoms. I am worried now, with all I have read in this thread, that the sound won't be very good with speakers placed there??!! I am going to put sound deadner everywhere in the doors I can, and am sound deadning the entire floor and bed (I have a blazer) I hope it will sound okay! I bought 4 Kenwood 6x9's (one in each door and one in each of the cargo panels) and a new Kenwood Xcelon CD player, AND a DVD player with 10" flat screen pull down and wireless headphone sets!!! (My hubby went a little wild at the electronics store!!) Should be great!!! Put the 2 boys in the back with headphones on and a movie playing and hopefully my hubby and I can actually have a conversation without being interrupted

Well, the average 6X9 claims to have a frequency range of ~30Hz to 20,000Hz, but they rarely reproduce anything below 5,000-7,000Hz with any accuracy at all. IMHO, putting a 6X9 in the door isn't going to do much for you other than make noise.

mine sound excellent in the doors i dont know what kind of speakers you guys are using or anything like that but mine sound great even with the sh!tty speakers i have in there. the problem is there arent enough speakers in the truck to overpower that lil ole small black kicking at 6 grand with flows dumping just behind the cab

Mine sound killer. Crossed over at around 100hz, they don't rattle the doors and aren't boomy like most six by nines. The door panels also help damp. And no butchering of the door either! Bigger is not alwasy better...

PO had the doors cut for 6.5" speakers So I went from there. I addes some slick Kenwoods in the doors, powered by an Alpine cd player (in the original dash ). Then I stuck an 8" sub under the center of the seat and I put a 150W amp on the back of the cab next to the gas tank (kinda where the jack is supposed to go. There, the amp is fairly easy to adjust but still out of the way.
I love the way mine sounds! Sure, Id rather have mine higher up in the door for better imaging like MIKE C, but the holes are already there so....... Just remember, you get what you pay for!
