What is the button in the middle of wiper switch for? 66 c10
Might be a dumb question but is the button on the knob of my wiper switch for setting the wiper speed? I'm having trouble keeping my wipers on when I turn the knob on. And if I press it it stays in and keeps the wipers on.

It runs the washer pump if you have one.

Yeah, washer pump mine has that switch too, anyone know where to get a replacement mine is on its last legs and I haven't been able to find any aftermarket ones that are anything like it. Mine is 2 speed with the pump switch.

So these trucks only have 2 speed wipers?
How do I keep my wipers set to stay on? Posted via Mobile Device |

By turning the knob once to the right (one click) you get slowest function out of your wipers, turn it to the second click you get a faster slow function out of your wipers! Ha
Both slowest and faster slow are continuos functions! Posted via Mobile Device

These guys just all think it would be funny if you pressed that button while going down the road.
It's really the ejector seat button. |

Not all trucks had 2 speed wipers and not all trucks had a washer either,, Those were expensive luxury items back then...

For us with the single speed wipers, can any of you with the fancy highfaluting 2 speed ones tell us which is the equivalent to our single speed ... the slow or the faster slow. I just gotta know.

Re: What is the button in the middle of wiper switch for? 66 c10
same in my 68. Anyone do a conversion so we can have more than two speeds? Wasn't sure if there was a later model motor we could use, and I'm sure there's someone here clever enough to design a stock looking switch to go with it...

Re: What is the button in the middle of wiper switch for? 66 c10
Newport engineering lists a wiper motor wih a different design, has two speeds + intermittant-costs two bills though. Somehow for me it's hard to justify the cost on an unknown, I'm feeding two kids. Someone rich and single should guinea pig one....some folks have used the Cole-Hersee switch to get intermittant wipes.

Re: What is the button in the middle of wiper switch for? 66 c10
don't think it's worth quite that much to me. It's just frustrating having to turn them on and off all the time or listen to the blade scrape against mostly dry glass...

Re: What is the button in the middle of wiper switch for? 66 c10
If the wipers are turning on and off at random, the most likely culprit is a defective dash switch or poor electrical connections between it and the motor.
If you don’t want to deal with the complexity of the factory washer setup, a simple option for is to install an inexpensive universal electric washer pump connected to a momentary push button or toggle switch. It might even be possible to wire in to the original knob/button switch. With this arrangement you can run the squirters independent of the wiper motor for as long or as short a time as you want. This avoids ever sweeping the wipers across dry glass. I’ve added this setup to every vintage car I’ve owned since the 1970’s. This is typical of the type pump I’ve used, although they are changed so often I’ve never purchased two that looked the same. With this type motor you’ll need a separate reservoir for the washer fluid. I normally use the factory 1980’s style plastic bottle. It mounts using bolts through two brass rivets so there isn’t any clumsy looking wire rack to get rusty. Or there are assemblies available including both the pump and reservoir for very little investment: On our truck I was lucky enough to find a pair of factory squirt nozzles at a wrecking yard years ago. If original style nozzles aren’t available, there are numerous designs available at Amazon and Ebay by searching for “Windshield Washer Nozzles”. Also a lot of vintage small/foreign cars have many excellent nozzle designs to pick from.
