I'm thinking about changing the mirrors on my truck (below) as the mounting arms for the existing (original) ones are now rusty, the mirror is cracked in one and both are losing the silvering off the back. Frankly they aren't the prettiest mirrors I've ever seen and now the ugly roll bar has gone of the back I'd like something cleaner to lok at. Can you post up what you're using so I can have a look? As I can't afford a respray at the moment I'm thinking of painting some small button head stainless bolts to match the paintwork and bolting them through the original holes with a dab of sealant to seal them up until I can weld the holes up and then afford to have them repainted.

I'm thinking about a set of these that clamp to the quarter window frame rather than having to drill the doors again, anyone used this kind of mirror and are they any good? My big problem is driving on the left (right!) side of the road the passenger side mirror is kinda important for overtaking etc so it needs to give a decent view.

Driving on the wrong side is a pain! Steering from the wrong is even worse...LOL! I hate the big mirrors due to door damage but they are much better to see out of. You can find the little pastic buttons in the hardware store that you can insert into the holes with sealer (don't use silicone sealer due to paint contamination) but paint them before you insert them. They sit almost flush. I like the stock round or custom sport mirrors but they are somewhat difficult to see out of. As good or better than the peeps...just too small, difficult to adjust and damage the paint on the door. You will still have to drill holes for the stockers but they will be in the correct spot at least. Just some thoughts for you.

How do you dirve that thing down those country roads with the big hedgerows on both sides along the North Devon Coast? I had trouble getting a little rental car down there...scared the "snake and kidney pie" outta me!

The small round mirrors seem to be worthless on the passenger side IMHO.

Those little peep mirrors are useless on the passenger side for regular driving and only offer a minor help when backing into parking spaces. At highway speeds the vibrate too much to see anything but a blur of lights. They do look good but I would only put it on if its necessary for inspections or insurance/registration purposes. Just my.02 worth.

Yes,there were factory below eyeline mirrors,later,simular to yours.But those little "L" brackets reveal them as aftermarket.There are the sport mirrors from71/72 that are very sharp on these trucks.Not the best mirror,styled like car mirrors from this era. Both truck pictures are borrowed from members.

Phil, who makes those mirrors? They look sharp. I have a 71 that has the stock reproduction mirrors on and I cannot see out the passenger side one at all. I don't wanna move the mirror because the holes will still be there. Those look like they would adjust though enough and cover up the holes.

I'm halfway through repainting the original arms but a house move, kids and generally life has intervened in the meantime. Now I have a decent sized garage with power (as of last weekend!) I hope to get back working on the truck this summer.
