Re: 71 Pickup 8 track Player

Just to add to the thread, here's a pic that Rod posted of another set of brackets. These appear to be like the ones in the black & white pic on page 1 of this thread.

Re: 71 Pickup 8 track Player

That interior looks strangely familiar I did not realize how dirty the thing was inside. That will serve as motivation I guess......

Re: 71 Pickup 8 track Player

My dad's 71 had an 8-track in the dash, but I would bet he installed it after the fact. Worked great until I got tired of Neil Diamond and decided to play a box of raisins instead as a kid when he wasn't paying attention.

Re: 71 Pickup 8 track Player

Haven't seen many to compare, but this I found once for sale on an auction site and was they were listed as the speakers for 8 tracks in our vintage trucks.

http://www.turnswitch.com/speakers.htm

I purchased the 4x10 dual cone 8-10 ohm speaker from above for my truck's 8 Track player. The speaker will be a direct fit in the front dash.

Re: 71 Pickup 8 track Player

Does anybody know where they GO?

Sounds to me like it used two additional speakers besides the single one that is mounted in the top of the dash for the exclusive use of the radio only. Am I understanding any of this correctly?

Is your 8 track a GM? In other words, is that what I need for mine ohm-wise?

Re: 71 Pickup 8 track Player

I don't even have an eight track player yet. Too pricey so far. I am looking for a bargain. I have no idea what ohm rating they had.

Yes....the speakers should be 8-10 ohm to match best. I called Electro-Tech and they were very helpful. With the dual cone speaker I am planning on running a left and right output from the 8 Track to these speakers. I do have the GM 8 Track which are in process of being rebuilt.

Re: 71 Pickup 8 track Player

FYI,

There appear to be a pair of correct NOS 8-track knobs for sale on Ebay (not mine). The listing number is 220379956747 (photo below).

Re: 71 Pickup 8 track Player

We have had some good pictures of the eight track unit.

Anyone out there got pictures of the correct speaker mounting arrangement?

Re: 71 Pickup 8 track Player

Her is a picture of a truck I bought that had a factory 8 track and what I beloved to be.factory speakers. The wires were soldered on and the whole in the kick panels are definitely factory. The kick panel.speakers play when the radio plays I don't have a 8 track to test the unit...it's all for sale in the classified section.
