Cab Roof Marker Lamp Mounting Clips

I had to change out bulbs in two of my c30 roof marker lights. One light went fine, but the other no so well. The threaded insert clips that fit into the square punched holes in the roof came loose and were spinning. I managed to get the screws out without damaging the roof or the lense. Does anyone know a source for those clips?

Anyone else had this issue? Cant seem to find any type of j bolt that will fit right. My neighbor has to square bodies with the same lights, may have to take one off and see how gm did it then.

Dirtwork, I am switching out to a clear led style light on mine. If you want the original mounting clips I will mail them to you. Send me an email with your address if you want them. Otherwise I think you can purchase new through LMC truck.

Re: Cab Roof Marker Lamp Mounting Clips

I have to replace one or two on my wrecker project and I'm planning on trimming down a square nut to fit the hole and either epoxy or tack weld it in.

I think they are originally tacked in.

Re: Cab Roof Marker Lamp Mounting Clips

I did check LMC truck and buckskins4ever you are right they offer a clip which they describe as a J-nut on their site. It is the same part offered for the 73-87 trucks as well, on which those j nuts is how it was done from the factory. They are really inexpensive so I may order some and see because that would be a simple fix.

Bobs409, thats a good idea, I never thought of trying that route. I would have to epoxy mine in as the roof is not being painted right now. They are 10-24 machine screws so a square nut may be pretty close to fitting with little effort.

Re: Cab Roof Marker Lamp Mounting Clips

Any good hardware store should have them, I've bought them at my local Westlake Hardware before.

10-24 rivet nuts might be useful.

Re: Cab Roof Marker Lamp Mounting Clips

I did try the local hardware store here with no luck. I will have to try a couple others that are bigger than the one here in my travels this week. I also thought about the plastic inserts like used on license plate screws only in a smaller version.

Re: Cab Roof Marker Lamp Mounting Clips

Are they the same as the inner grill screw inserts on a 71-72, I just can't remember? If I can timewise I'll look up the P/N later.

Re: Cab Roof Marker Lamp Mounting Clips

The original nuts in the roof are steel, I thought about using something similar to the grill inserts to repair it.
