Boyd tank install

I need some help, i cant seem to get my head wrapped around what is needed to install my Boyd tank.

it will be going in my 70.

I bought the carburated tank, product number 14001.

Bed fill 2" (center). I will be using an Attwood 2" deck fill. P/N 66411-1. This is the only 2" filler I could find.

1/2" NPT Vent. I plan to use a motorcyle vent.

3/8" NPT Return. I plan to plug.

3/8" NPT draw. What is this? Is this were the fuel line to the pump connects?

It will come with the sending unit. This is where the tan wire for the guage and the ground will contect.

I have a Boyd tank. You will need an inverted flare fitting for the 3/8ths "draw" so you can connect the fuel line and of course you will need some 3/8ths hard line to run back to the engine compartment. Yes, the tan wire and a ground will go to the sending unit.

Do you have the bed on your truck? When I mounted mine my bed was off of the truck, made it easy to install. With the bed on the truck it will be a challenge to install.

Re: Boyd tank install

Yes the bed is on and I do not plan on removing. Don't worry, everything i do is a challenge. Is the draw on the bottom of the tank or does the draw come out of the sending unit?

Re: Boyd tank install

Haven't installed a tank back there, but I had my bed off in about 20 minutes last time I tried by myself. I'd lift it out of the way, and do everything the easy way, then drop it back on.

I have a Boyd tank. The draw is from the bottom of the tank.

Re: Boyd tank install

I also purchased and installed a tank from Boyds. I got a new sending unit and a rollover vent from him also. I ran 3/8 stainless tubing from the tank to the fuel pump. Try to get some pics when I get home..

Re: Boyd tank install

I have one also, yet to install. I'm running a LS motor, so I need to run an external pump. As I bought the regular tank also.

CPP sells several different styles of Billet Aluminum Locking bed fill doors but unfortunately their website isn't working properly right now and I can't get to them to link you.

I bought the Stealth EFI version of their tank but I had them instal a block off plate incase I decided not to go with EFI.

Re: Boyd tank install

I got this door for my bed fill non-efi tank. I haven't put it in yet, but it seems really nice.
