Need some help on a 2004 4x4

I need somebody to give me some pointers of how in the crap you got to the top bell-housing bolts for the transmission? This is the first time I have had to do this on this body style and DANG it's TIGHT! Any pointers is much appreciated.

I have not had any experience with a 4x4 but on my 04 2 wheel drive when I removed the motor I removed the rear cross member and lowered the back of the trans a few inches and used about 3 or 4 feet of extensions with a u-joint adapter. That was on advice of my transmission man. When I reassembled the truck I did it with the motor and trans pushed forward about 3 inches and it was easy. I don't know if you are doing a motor swap or a trans swap. If it's the motor, then unhook everyting else and slide it forward a bit (assuming that can even be done on a 4x4).

I'll tell you, I was so frustrated trying to get to those bolts that I started looking to see if it had Ford emblems on it!

Let us know what ends up working for you.

Re: Need some help on a 2004 4x4

Thanks for the reply. I am just removing the transmission I am too looking at the front of the truck to see if its got a blue oval DANG! Heres what worked for me.
Go ahead and remove the transfer case. After you do that the the transmission will droop down enough to get to all the bolts with enough extensions. Its out and I am so ready the get the rebuilt one back up in there. Thanks again.
