I'n no expert but the factory had ground straps on certain points of the truck. I think the VH kit has instructions on where to mount them.
SS Tim or Special-K would probably know where all the ground straps go..

i think i'm gonna splurge on one of those reproduction units from Classic Parts of America. it's an all new imitation of the original AM/FM unit for our trucks. looks NOS once installed, right down to the analog tuner bar. but hidden behind that retro facade is a digital tuner, 4 speaker capability, aux inputs, etc. my truck didn't come with a radio, so i'm going to buy a hidden antenna at the same time.
