welder

What kind of welders do you all own? I am gonna start building a blazer and want something I can use for body work and doing a c-notch. As you can probably tell I dont know much welding yet, I am trying to learn.

I would look for a small MIG welder. It would be perfect for what you need. Miller makes small MIG welders that retail for $500-600 that are perfect for light usage....they weld like 1/4"-22 guage steel, and plug into a standard 115v outlet. MIG's are also dead simple to learn....almost like using a caulk gun, lol.

I have a Hobart 175

We've done everything from full body shaves to stock floor body drops with it.
It’s s about 4 years old and have had zero problems.
Also look at the MILLERMATIC 175 it’s a little better made but also a little more $$.

I bought a Lincoln pro 135 ($420-430) 110v not long ago (Lowes).
I have welded up to 1/4" in a single pass with more then enough stregth. Have been using it a lot on different projects and I am happy with it so far. I took some welded steel parts out to the desert this weekend and shot it up. SKS would punch right through 1/4" mild steel plate no problem. When I shot the weld it still punched through, but the weld around the hole was still all there with no crack or sign of damage. Its a good little welder, thats easy to use and learn.

I was concerned about it at first, but have used it on the same circuit as other things like an air compressor and havent even popped a breaker yet. No complaints so far (used it on sheet metal and 1/4"). Havent used it for aluminum yet.

A welder I could plug in anywhere was a must, thats why I bought the 135 (110v). Something important to consider.
If you plan to use it in one spot all the time, spend a extra $100 and get a 175 (220v). If you want to use gas all you need to buy is the tank, everything else is included.

No its still dark. Its gets lighter when you turn them on and when you strike and arc it goes darker.

A guy i knew back in high school got the "bright" (pun intended...hehe) idea to weld in cutting torch goggles during shop class. He burned his eyes pretty bad and had to leave school and go to the doctor

Go to the doctor with burned eyes?
There's nothing that will cure that! LOL

That is really too bad though as it does permanent damage to the eyes when you throw that much UV at them.
