Rear bumper brackets
If they're all being replaced, wouldn't these brackets (for a 73-80) work on an 81-87? The new plain ol' chrome bumper we're using is labeled for a 73-87. I don't get the differences. I can't find a brackets/bolts kit for the 81-87.

Re: Rear bumper brackets
Lmc has them at about the same silly price.

Re: Rear bumper brackets
73-80 bumpers are shaped different than the 81-87 bumpers.
The brackets are also different.

Re: Rear bumper brackets
I am also looking for rear bumper brackets for my 86 stepside... Will the 81-87 brackets be for the regular small bumper and not the huge one.. Can someone help if they know what I am talking about.... Do the brackets have to be from a 81-87 step or fleet..

Find a set of 73-87 STEPSIDE brackets,... and then buy a 67-72 rear stepside bumper,... and you will have the correct rear bumper for a 73-87 stepside. Here is a set of 73-87 stepside rear brackets. http://67-72chevytrucks.com/vboard/s...d.php?t=566215

Re: Rear bumper brackets
So are the brackets from that bumper different from a bigger step dimond cut bumper.. The ones from LMC seem to be for the bigger bumper..

Re: Rear bumper brackets
In that LMC page, bumpers 1 and 2 have the same looking holes or brackets. We have bumper 1, the smoothest of them. I think that the bracket kits may be interchangeable between the fleetsides as long as they are together. It looks like the 80's trucks used stubby inner brackets instead of the 4 long ones that sandwiched the frame. Anyone have pics of the rear frame of the 70's trucks vs the 80's? Is there a rear crossmember difference or anything? I'd look at my 83 but it's a crazy drop bumper with globs of welds instead of legit bumper brackets.

Re: Rear bumper brackets
The LMC pages shows that the fleetside brackets are different.
They all sandwich the frame. Look at parts 18, 19, 20, and 21. 73-80 or 81-87.

Re: Rear bumper brackets
You can see it in this picture, the end that attatches to the bumper is stepped for the 81-87 fleetside. I just bought a set of them from choicebumper on eBay, but they don't have any more listed. I think a few of the vendors on here sell them.
