Boosting an inline 6
I know this sounds a little different but i want to turbo my 235 chevy stovebolt. It is in a 58 chevy apache longbox sm420 with factory rearend. the motor was rebuild 3 or 4 years ago and was used in a hay sweep and is still a good running engine. I have heard that on a stock motor you can run under 8psi boost, so i have since acquired a turbo off of a 3406E Caterpillar and wonder if i can back the waistgate off to about 6psi and the motor still be able to hold.

I wouldn't run boost without forged pistons. Even at low psi I've heard there can be detonation and cast pistons being destroyed.

Check out Tom at. 12bolt.com and look for the video link. The manifold he is using is a factory austrailian piece.

I considered this previously. The cast pistons are the first holdback.
Make sure you have a good fuel pump, manifold referenced fuel pressure regulator, a carburetor modified for blow through applications, and keep the boost low by using a large waste gate. I built a system for my ford lighting, but it is a totally different animal. Posted via Mobile Device
