corrosion protection behind welded plates

I'm welding ord's steering box weld patch and brace kit www.offroaddesign.com/catalog/steeringkit.htm on my 72 Chevy restoration, no previous cracks. I'll be por 15ing the frame, but behind the reinforcement plate and frame, how can I prevent rust. Are weldable primers worth while, or copperweld/zinc spray?

Also, I'll just be doing intermediate welds along the perimeter, what can I put down to seal it from moisture, would jb weld negate the purpose of intermediate welds?

Re: corrosion protection behind welded plates

I use U-POL weld through primer all the time.

By the way thats a cool design for a steering brace. Thanks for the link.
