Axle Newb question <-------
Ok.. apparently my front and rear axle innerds are junk.. So my mechanic has suggested that I get a posi locker in the back and new ring and pinions and kit for the front.. that's all well and good..but I really don't have the slightest clue what the hell he is talking about.. after a little research its kinda making sense to me but I figured I would have you guys give me some good advice..right now I'm looking at an Eaton rear locker and calling Randy's ring&pinion and asking what I will need for the front....so can/should i get a locker for front?...or get ring/pinion or what... any help is greatly appreciated..

the eaton locker / posi and new ring/pinoin gears is a great idea for the rear. you can go to a lower gear to account for your larger tires. like 4.56 or 4.11 to 1 ratio. as for the front dont get a locker unless its an air or elect so that you can leave it open while on the street. or get a limited slip unit and match the rear gears.

Re: Axle Newb question <-------
Ok.. just got off the phone with my axle dude.. once again..I'm a complete moron when it comes to axles..so..just wanna make sure I'm not getting completely hammered on this.
Total cost for both axles completed including Labor is 2150.00 (These are the original axles..not new ones..powder-coated..blah blah) Eaton Rear Diff, Bearing Kit, Fluid, Press work/Gears/ Labor for Rear. Bearing Kit/Fluid/Press Work for Front. (basically the labor comes out to 700.00 for both) Does this seam like an OK deal???.. I'm sure I could do it cheaper...but I don't have the space or time..deadline on getting a rolling chassis to paint is coming really quick..just wanna make sure that this sounds about right...The only thing that I really question is "Press Work"...I don't know what that means...I know that I'm switching everything to 3.73... so I imagine it has to do with that..

Re: Axle Newb question <-------
total price sounds about right. i havent bought any gears in a long time so with price and labor increases over the yrs I would be ok with that. I know my buddy just put a new 3rd member in his toyota for $1000. maybe run this question over in the drivetrian section.
