Re: Big Block Water Pump.
Long and short water pumps are different. You need to know which one you have. What side of the engine is your alternator on? If it is on the drivers side, you have a short water pump. If it is on the passenger side, you have a long water pump.

Re: Big Block Water Pump.
Had a stock cast iron GM pump, Replaced it with electric and had heating problems with 2 duel electric fans . Replaced with the aluminum Edelbrock high flow belt drive pump and works great, and it looks good too

Re: Big Block Water Pump.
To add to leddzeps comment, if you change from short to long or long to short, you also have to change alternator brackets, p/s brackets, and all the pullys which gets pricey. I could be wrong but I think the p/s pump may also be different.
If it were me, I would stay away from electric pumps for a daily driver. $100.00 for a new stock replacement is not bad as they are getting $60.00 to $70.00 for a reman. Reman are ok but after they have been remanufactured a few times the cores get a little beat up and fail more often. Just some thoughts. |
