Fender Emblem Mounting...drill or silicone?

I restored my '80 Scottsdale 20 a couple years ago and never put the fender emblems back on, just filled the holes. I'm thinking my rig is having an identity crisis and I need to put them back on!

Now that I found a nice set of them on ebay, I'm wondering what most of you guys are doing to mount them. Drilling new holes or silicone in place?

IMO, neither. All new vehicles are stick on and are tough to get off. I would use double stick 3M. It wont hurt the paint or sheet metal and if you change your mind you can remove it with fishing string.

The '80 "Scottsdale 20" emblem does not have a solid plate backing behind the letters to use double back tape on. It would show under the lettering unless I wanted to spend hours with a razor blade.

Silicone, I couldn't find the heart to drill into a nice painted fender.

Re: Fender Emblem Mounting...drill or silicone?

Ive drilled thru fresh paint many times on customers rides when they added things. Its not too bad. Lay down some blue tape on the fenders and mark where you want to drill. The tape helps keep the paint from chipping around the bit. Or you can do the silicone thing...Im doing the same thing to my truck, adding the emblems. Mine were shaved years ago.

There's. a product called "GOOP" they sell it everywhere in many different varietys. Get a tube of the Marine GOOP and use that, it sticks well, uv resistant, and its clear. I use it over silicon to make stuff watertight all the time.

Re: Fender Emblem Mounting...drill or silicone?

If the emblems have there studs just drill the holes and use the push in inserts that hold your emblems on. we use them all the time. No need to remove the fenders to install.
