Please Please
OK This is a 72 4X4 3/4 ton with a bent x-member.
I need to know exactly what type of donor truck I have to get get a new cross member from.
Does it have to be 3/4 ton? 4X4? Both?
When I'm up to speed on exactly what I need, I'll move to the parts board and see if someone could cut one out of an old frame and send to me.

Thanks a bunch!

P.S. NO. I don't know what bent it. It was like that when I bought the truck.

Here is kind of a funky photo of the bed swap I just did.
The 72 GMC 2WD is the donor. It sold it 2 weeks ago.
I took the bed off it before I sold it cuz it had a canopy on it all it's life. Not even one small dent on the inside. I put it on the 72 Cheyenne Super 4X4 I just bought.

For real!!!!! All I've seen have tat same bend, unless I'm smokin' crack and don't know it. I'm not the oriinal owner, but the vehicle hasn't been wrecked. I looked at other trucks in the Junkyard and they are the same. Look at some posts here with under bed tank installs. Maybe I'm wrong..... and we all have messed up rears!!!

Now you have me really curious!
I was just up visiting PICKMUP up in Olympia last weekend.
I looked at at least 3 frames while I was up there (cuz i was going to try and buy a new x-member from him) and all his were streight. This is VERY interesting.
Hope someone can help shed some light on this . . . . . .

Hopefully somebody can tell us!!! They all appear to be bent in exactly the same spot. Maybe the factory did this on some trucks for some reason???

I wouldn't be surprised if that were factory. After all, it matches the bend in the front crossmember.

all the shortbed trucks i have had were pretty straight, heres the one i sold not to long ago.

I just looked at mine. The first is a 69 SWB 1/2 2wd and the second is a 71 SWB 1/2 ton 4x4. Both are straight. I'd try and straighten it before I pulled it out.

Darren you need to measure across on your frame/box mounting holes and see if they match up with your box . If they don't maybe it is bent .

Are the frame rails parallel? Measure across the rails in front of the cross member and near the rear. If the bed mounts line up and the bumpers work it may just be a variation from GM plants.

all the ones I have seen are straight. f.y.i. I believe this cross member is the same for 1/2 and 3/4 4wd. Not sure about the 2wd because the frame actually flares a little wider in the back than the 4wd. Maybe take a measurement side to side before you make your request.

I'm confused too.
My bed holes line up perfect.
The back bumper lines up great.
The frame rails seem streight.
If I try and streighten it while it's in the frame, will it bend the frame rails out?
I could understand if it was bent back, like someone tried to tow or pull another rig with it. But it's bent forward!
What the He!! is that about?

I'm thinking I should just try and find someone with a 3/4 ton 4x4 with a frame to be scrapped, and have them cut out that peice I need and send it to me and compare it to the one I have.
Speak up if you can get me a frame cross member.
