Fuel line and exhaust question for rear tank installation

How close can I run a fuel line to my exhaust and be safe? A few months back I raised my dual exhaust and ran it through my carrier bearing crossmember because I bagged my truck. This weekend I plan to add a rear gas tank on my 71. I'm planning on runing the fuel hose down the passinger side of the frame along the inside wall of the frame. This would put the fuel hose about 6 to 8 inches from my exhaust pipe. Is this a good enough distance not to cause any safety concerns? How are you guys with rear gas tanks running your fuel lines?

Re: Fuel line and exhaust question for rear tank installation

the fuel lines should be fine that where they were run from the factory with rear mount tanks. just watch how close your pipes are from your floor or tranny lines, if you think your to close to floor or any kind of line just make your self a heat shield. The only time heat of your exhaust is really a problem is when your not moving, you would have to sit still for a very long time with your truck running for it to heat up your gas line along the frame rail.

You should have the same issues with your air lines. For fuel use metal lines. Even finding a inside diameter correct rubber line/ zip tied to fit over the air lines and fuel lines to use a shield in critically close areas.

vehicles with rubber hose tend to burn real good right down to the ground
