17" Dually Wheels (Low1ton, Scoti, Lowlife99, GCncsuHD)
So the new 20" dually wheels being released by Eagle Alloys got me hot n bothered enough to where I was just about to pull the trigger on a set, but I *just can't* get over not having a suitable load rated tire. At the very least, an LT.
S I got to thinking about maybe just running a set of the 17" wheels. At least I can them run an LT, if not a full on "D" or "E" rated tire (although, I haven't found a 17" tire w/a 29" diameter in either rating yet). Three questions: 1. What is everyone running on the inside? I thought I read somewhere that a 17" Dodge steelie will work. 2. What tire size is popular in this application? 3. Anyone have any pics of a dropped square dually on 17's? |

The new Chevy GMC duallys have 17" wheels, but these are the new 2011-up Chevy bolt pattern.
Why Gm changed the bolt pattern is beyond me. I don't know if the new Dodge (8x6.5?) or Ford (8x200mm?) pattern is the same as the old GM pattern. Dodge 17's. http://www.ebay.com/itm/NEW-DODGE-RA...sories&vxp=mtr Ford 17's. http://www.ebay.com/itm/17-Ford-F-35...sories&vxp=mtr

This Dodge wheel says it's the correct 8x6.5 pattern,...

Re: 17" Dually Wheels (Low1ton, Scoti, Lowlife99, GCncsuHD)
I am running Firestone destination st tires. They are staggered sizes with shorter up front taller in rear. I don't remember exact sizes I will look later but I think they are 245 in front and 255 in rear. My experience with 17" wheels is the offsets are not perfect for my 2000 gmc they either set in to far or stick out a little. The set I have currently work pretty well but they are my third set. They are ultra wheel brand. For the inside wheel it is a 17" steel gm wheel that tennessee wheel and tire machined the bore larger and the made me hubcentric rings to center them up. Works great have not had a single issue. I am going to move to the 20" wheels when they become available and I see they fit good. So I will have a nice set of 17" wheels and tires just sitting around. Let me know if you have more questions. I will throw up some pictures later.

To my knowledge it was because of the much higher GVWRs that the new trucks are capable of. Changing the bolt circle prevented people from putting the earlier style wheels on which are not approved for the higher loads.

My current set-up consists of 16" alum outers & OE 16" inner steelies w/235-75 LT's on the front & 235-85 load rated E's on the rear. My plan was to do 17" steelies/wheels & try to get as close as possible to current sizing (29.9"F; 31.7"R). Some 245-70-17 E's in front @ 30.6" & 245-75-17 E's out back @ 31.5" are what I found easily available & load rated. I really like the Eagle's & feel the 20" diameter fits these larger trucks well. The tire size/load range concerns & possible dropped truck spacing concerns are what's holding me back.

Ok for lifted or stock height, but 33" tall tires don't work on the front of a square dually when dropped moderately or more. I'd also be worried about 275mm width on a 7.5" wheel in the rear dual app's.
