Some guys are making a killing on cabs and beds.
I have been looking for a replacement cab and short bed for two of my trucks. I started with cabs and holy smokes, some of these guys are wanting upwards of $2400 for them complete. I have found a custom deluxe cab with air for $750 that I might have to give in and buy. I didn't want to spend more than $500 for a bed or a cab.
Then I started calling aroundfor beds. One guy is $1750 for a clean bed. I understand that they are hard to find in good shape but come on. The closest one I found in the ball park was $885. This guy had two of them and one without tailgate. I guess the thing is that I kind of had a budget set aside for these two trucks I am building and these two pieces are just messing that all up.

Re: Some guys are making a killing on cabs and beds.
I only paid $700 for a complete running shortbed truck with zero cancer. Those prices are crazy high but i guess it depends on where you live?

Dont give in to high prices I got a bed for free. It'll take some time and effort but you'll find one cheaper eventually.

Re: Some guys are making a killing on cabs and beds.
I have started to look as far south as Kentucky for complete trucks and nothing yet. I drove by a short bed today and the guy wanted $1000 and the rockers were ate out and the bed was full of cancer. No thanks.
I had been hearing for those who live in the south that prices were pretty cheap for these items. If shipping wasn't soo stinking expensive.

Re: Some guys are making a killing on cabs and beds.
Seems like around here I can even find one so dont feel to bad. I sold a super clean bed a few years ago i needed a new phone bad and this guy wanted it im still kicking myself since my bed starting to rust real bad real quick that and the freaking neighbor backing up into the truck. Well good news is you can buy new bedsides not quite sure of the quality but im sure as long as they bolt on you will be a head of the game

Re: Some guys are making a killing on cabs and beds.
making a killing wouldn't be what i had in mind... maybe.. not selling things would be better...
there's always cheap ones or reasonably priced one that pop up from time to time.. let these people rip off other people.

Re: Some guys are making a killing on cabs and beds.
I looked for 5 years for my cab and found a spotless one 10 miles from home for 400 for the cab and front clip. Watched and waited for a bed for months. Finally a guy on craigslist was coming home to Iowa to from Arkansas with an empty trailer. For 500 he drug me a beatiful bed with tailgate up here. So now with my GM fenders and doors that I bought new in the late 90s from my chevy dealer I could not be happier with the way mine is turning out. Just wait around and clean solid metal will show up.

If i lived in the rust belt...I'd budget a week's vacation in TX, AZ, NV or CA..look around for a truck, and ship it back.

Re: Some guys are making a killing on cabs and beds.
I had a clean swb bed for sale on CL for 6 months last summer for $400. Finally dropped it to $200 and sold it with tailgate. Had a very clean (no rust, no dents and nice factory paint) LWB bed I could not sell. I took it apart and took it to the scrapper. Got like $40 for it. Hell I even had that one for sale on this forum. You need to look elsewhere my friend

Re: Some guys are making a killing on cabs and beds.
There are still deals in our area. I picked up this 77 shorty for 1K, rust free front clip, fairly solid cab, perfect box, dana 60 front axle, aluminum mags, 40 inch ground hawgs, and lift with a ton of ORD parts. It was a guys project that he gave up on.

Re: Some guys are making a killing on cabs and beds.
Even out here in crazy California if you hunt CL for a while you'll find cabs for a lot less than that. I got my whole truck for a little over $300, there were back fees but there are ways around that. Good luck.

On craigslist someone local had a tailgate for $500.00, was taken off the truck when it was bought brand new.

Re: Some guys are making a killing on cabs and beds.
I think I am just going to focus on looking for a cab right now. I need to get progress moving on it right now. I will hold off on the bed for now since it looks like I got the screws put to me today with the 4x4 frame I bought. Was supposed to be an 86 and looks to be a 73-79 swb frame.
