Gloves!!!!

I have been down the road buying all these different gloves from Home Depot, Harbor Freight, Hardware stores, etc. They have all been garbage and need to be replace just after a couple of days of fab and welding work. I Finally found the right ones that are supple, dont turn to garbage when grinding sparks hit them, can take a hit from the wheel itself, and even work with the TIG. Its been weeks working with them and they are still in great shape. I am sure that there are others, but at this price?

Get them at Costco. $6.33 per pair in California.

At my workplace we wear the kevlar cut resistant gloves when assembling engines as the sharp blocks cylinder heads etc. can be like razors.I often use the Hobart Tig gloves in the shop at home ,I usually have to replace then about once a year . They cost 19.95 at the local TSC

I have never tried the kevlar cut resistant gloves. What brand do you use? How long do they last? I am sure that they are expensive.

Ha, I actually use a set when I am working on the truck at my grandmas garage as it is easier too not dirty up the truck and everything around the basement when I am going in and out.

I was considering a Mechanix set.

My mom gave me a package of those gloves for Christmas 2011 and they do work pretty good.

Dollartree here has some thin jersey gloves with little nubbies on the inside that work pretty good just for handling things though. I use them to haul in firewood and they give my old arthritic hands a good feel on the steering wheel especially when it's below freezing out. I haven't tried them for welding though.

We use those exact ones too, in the shop and for yard work. I also use the Sears mechanix knockoffs, a couple of times a year they go on sale for $10. But I tear up the left hand knuckles on them. For welding and grinding I have leather that go up my arms aways. Also a bunch of surplus green wool ones for winter. Next we can have a thread on hats...

when i polish stuff i use cheap cheappo brown cotton gloves i get at the fleamarket they are usually about 7-8dollars for a dozen pair

for yard work and cutting metal i use leater gloves very similar to the first ones pictured


when working with caustic stuff like oven cleaner or acid i use heavy rubber gloves

por15 i use disposable laytex type gloves from harbor frieght that are 50to a box

I hardly ever wear gloves anymore, but the other day it was so cold I had to borrow a pair from a friend. They were leather, insulated cabela's gloves; probably expensive, but man they were real nice.

If anyone is in the Payette Idaho region, I highly recommend getting a pair of their gloves. They make all kinds, from work, dress, motorcycle, and rodeo types.

I have a pair of their work gloves, but they are too nice for working on automotive stuff. Great for outdoor general usage, and for motorcycle gloves that aren't fancy.

It's a tiny little store that's been there for ever it seems, and they are really nice people that will get you fitted for your gloves or whatever you buy.

I stop in, get fitted and then have them mailed to me.

I like the Blue rubberized ones Ellen posted for just general use.I do need to get some of the first oes for welding tho.

I generally don't wear gloves when working around the shop, unless I'm doing some cutting, grinding or welding type work.

I can tolerate the cuts, burns and scrapes that come with doing work on vehicles. I just can't stand the lack of fine feeling or touch when wearing mechanics gloves or other gloves. That and gloves always get caught on edges when you try to squeeze your hands into tight places.

For any heavy welding work, I really do like Gander gloves. I believe the Gander item number is 1525. I got a couple free pairs from work a couple years ago and I've been in love with them since.


I also rather enjoy the Miller TIG gloves for any light welding or TIG welding. They fit really nice and tight and have soft leather.


I actually usually carry the Miller TIG gloves around at work too. With my job I don't need to have gloves on all the time, but when I do these ones actually work quite nicely. And being made out of thinner material, they fold up and still fit in my coverall pockets nicely.

I got tired of turning gloves into swiss cheese within a week or two. I dont even both trying to wear them. I weld and torch overhead at work aside from spinning wrenches. I accepted long ago my hands will be burned and calloused.

x2 on the Atlas 370 Nitrile. I get them out of Seattle with free shipping. I try to keep chemicals off of my hands anymore, I put my liver through enough at cocktail hour(s)....they will last a couple of months of hard wrenching and they are under $5 if you by them at a dozen. I can head to the parts store or lunch pretty quickly without spending and half hour at the sink.

i would use regular leather gloves for general work and mig/tig welding but if i was getting specific i use bsx tig welding gloves for tig and their mig gloves for mig and their the only gloves i will ever use again

I like the mechanix fastfit gloves for general work. I can still "feel" with them on, but they also protect against grinder burn and bloody knuckles. For stuff that requires a lot of finger use, I usualy wont wear gloves unless it is something like paint, then I use nitrile gloves. The mechanix gloves are usable for mild welding, but for anything else we have a couple pairs of el cheapo welding gloves in the shop.
