Corp 14FF U bolt question

Does anyone know if you are able to change the style of U bolt and spring plates on a 73-91 K30, going from the under-the-axle spring plate to the style on top of the spring?? Basically going from square style to round style. I thought I read somewhere you couldn't on a stock set up, but not sure???? Thanks in advance.

Re: Corp 14FF U bolt question

that is what I was looking at, but the website said that on 1 ton's the truck would have to have a lift or the plates would hit the frame....which I am confused because I don't see anyway it could hit the frame....???????

Re: Corp 14FF U bolt question

I got 2 3/4t with 14bolt ff,there is lots of room between the plates and frame.Should be the same for 1 tons?? I will find out in a bit, need to put new springs on my crew & the plates are going on the top.

Re: Corp 14FF U bolt question

yeah, your right, i guess i did'nt think about that- i have a 8" lift. also have airbags brackets, but i have room for them. you would think if clearances are that tight on stock susp. that airbags would'nt fit either, but they do. the a.bag brackets are 2 1/4" tall & they dont contact anything. heck, should only have about 1 3/4" of u-bolt & nut sticking up. when mine get here i can post pic's, but they probably wont tell you anything if your susp. is stock

Re: Corp 14FF U bolt question

Trying to picture where the springs set under the frame....but it seems that they sit outside the frame rails??? If they do, how the heck would the interfere with the frame itself???

Re: Corp 14FF U bolt question

they do sit outside. it's been 7 or 8 yrs since i lifted my crew, so i dont remember how close to the frame. but look at the pic, dont see how they'ed hit either. look at the size of the airbag mount. the old fellow i bought it from (stock susp.) hauled a huge 12 ft camper on it with bags.

Re: Corp 14FF U bolt question

The spring hangers on a 3/4 ton are different from a 1 ton. On the one ton they sit closer to the side of the frame, and the spring pad spacing on the axle is also narrower. For this reason when the suspension flexes the upper spring plates would come close to the frame.
Hope this helps.

Re: Corp 14FF U bolt question

Hmmm, it may be a DRW vs SRW thing. The K30 I was referencing was a DRW.

yup, that is more than enough.i'm thinking if the u-bolt plate was wide enough to hit the frame, it would contact the bump stops first. i just cant see it being that wide, they should'nt be much if any wider then a.bag mounting plates, & p.o. of my crew said he had no probs., nor have i ever found any kind of marks or contact on my frame (before i lifted it, or after)
