Fellow chevy guy from central PA

Hello all!

My name is Vance and I am from Stormstown, PA, and I am currently a junior at Penn State in Animal Sciences and Ag Systems Management. I grew up on a small family farm and worked with my dad in construction. Now to the important stuff.

I am a diehard chevrolet fan. It runs in my family. Counting my two trucks my family has seven chevy pickups:

Just over three years ago I bought my first truck, a 1992 K2500 with the 6.5L Diesel and NV4500 trans. It was not long before I began modifying it. It now has a rebuilt engine w/ ARP main and head studs, a marine injection pump, and a hx52 turbo, soon to be center mounted. Last summer I completed a solid axle swap on it so it now rides on a Dana 60 front from an 87 chevy with a np241 pass. drop transfer case and the 14 bolt full floater it came with (4.10 gears). I have done all of the work to the truck myself, no one else has touched it.

Anyways to what this site is about I have always liked vintage chevy pickups but I never really planned to get one in the near future until I ran into a deal I couldn't pass up. It was a forgotten truck that had been sitting for some time, and it is going to officially be my second vehicle come Thursday when I get the title (although I have already brought it home and done some work on it)

It is a 1971 Chevy K10 long bed with a 350 and T350 trans. The drivetrain and chassis on this truck is in excellent shape, in fact the frame is cleaner than my 92. The body is a different story. It has been redone, so it actually has no rust or body work to be done, but it was not done right. It was patched up and puttied pretty badly. However, I am buying it for a new daily driver and so a perfect body isn't necessary. Someday down the road I may source a good cab and bed and restore the truck, but not in the near future. Unfortunately I do not have any good pictures of the truck right now, but I will get some soon!

So far I have gotten the engine running right after replacing a pushrod and adjusting the valves. I have not been able to take her out for a true drive yet but I know she shifts at least from 1st to 2nd. The 350 is not the original 350, the PO had replaced the valve covers with chrome ones but left the originals in the bed, which had "target master" on them, which as I found is a factory replacement engine. I have also put rally wheels I got at the junkyard on it, as well as replaced the seat with a cloth one from an early 90s chevy. I am hoping to have it on the road soon!

For those of you that are wondering, I paid $2000 for it. I thought it was a good price for a k10.

So as you may have gathered, I don't have something long without wanting to modify it. This is no different. While I planned to just run the 350/350 combo, I recently stumbled across an ad for a 472 cadillac motor w/trans for a really good price, and now my head is spinning. I have been researching and I see it has been done before, and I have seen it here too. So I may look into going that route.

Anyways I hope to learn a great deal from this site and being part of a group that keeps these old girls alive!
