cowl hoods?
i am thinking of getting a 2 or 3" cowl hood for my blazer...what are advantages of fiberglass vs. steel? also, who has the best prices on them?

I dont know too much about fiberglass hoods (or cars in general).
But I was wondering if you had to have hood pens if you had a fiberglass hood.

They make glass hoods that use the stock latch.

youll need hood springs
the stock hood springs are to strong for fiberglass. when you shut the hood it will try to bend it and if its cold outside is could snap it in two

I have a Goodmark steel hood on mine. (I think I paid $399 for it) . It fits very well and uses stock hardware. If you get a fiberglass hood and want to use the stock hardware, the cost will be nearly the same as the steel hood, and it won't be a whole lot lighter, either.

snapped mine right in half
it may just be the 73-80 style hood springs. i broke mine right in half and i called them up and told them they had a manufacturer defect the guy told me that in my directions it says i need less stiff springs. so it was my fault i was out $350..i'll go with steel next time

ive never used a fiberglass hood in my life but im told by someone who owns a body shop that fiberglass hoods will crack in a couple of years especially in places with cold temps and if ya use the truck on off roading dont know if its true or not just thought id add that in

The cowl hood I had that went to Izzy then elsewhere was two-part fiberglass with steel supports inside. It felt about twice as heavy as the stock hood. It used the factory latches and springs. Only time it cracked was when some dillhole (not me!) slammed the hood and the latch pushed a crack through, and another time when a girl jumped up to have a seat on my hood
 . I think the company that made it is long gone though, but it was a nice hood.
