I have a stupid question... I've noticed that with a dropmember in the front that the wheels lean in towards the engine compartment. Some trucks have the whee lean and some I have seen dont have it, but how do you drive with the wheels leaned inwards and how do you fix that if you want them straight up and down? I don't understand how they can turn or even drive like that? New to the dropmember scene and wanna install one on my "64 stepper so any info on this would greatly help me out!

Re: Porterbuilt Dropmember

You can only get so much camber curve out of a spindle etc.......there has to be some compromise.

Its like building a racing engine. You have to decide where to build the 2000 rpm band you want to be in if say your racing..........7700 to 9600 is a good place to be if your racing. If you put that in your street car the engine will me lousy to drive.

If you build these cars to drive everyday you need to pick the spot you want to drive it at...Not all rides heights will give you close to zero camber....

Now thats my explanation.......might not be the clearest, but its what I perceive.

Welcome to the board!
I think you have the Dropmember confused with stock crossmembers with cupped lower a-arms.
They camber in at an extreme angle when air'd out.
The Porterbuilt Dropmember has one of the best designed bagged suspension set-ups ever developed for C10 trucks.
Their design keeps the wheels more verical layed out than any other.

Since you're building a '64 I thought you would like Delmo's old '65 video.
It's running and driving with Porterbuilt products.
See for yourself if this is acceptable to you.

Riley-

Lolife99 did a good job explaining this. As mentioned, it's the suspension geometry's design that dictates the amount of camber the suspension gets. On our Extreme kits, we have a very minimal camber gain built in. This keeps the front wheels fairly upright throughout the travel (more so than any other kit on the market that I have seen). I designed it this way, so that the truck "looked right" when it's laying on the ground (and riding low). Nothing catches the eye quicker than a cambered over wheel when the truck is aired out.

With that said, we also offer a handful of other geometry configurations that do have a much more aggressive camber curve... for those more interested in performance than laying frame.

Feel free to shoot us a call at the shop one of these days and we can spend some time with you on the phone to help clarify and answer any questions you might have.

Nate
