Unhappy Bummer Of A Day

The proverbiale shi**y day. Started out bad when at 04:30 AM this morning it was very apparent that the battery in the car was about to go to it's greater reward. Finally started after rolling over very slow. Got to work and intended to get a new battery after work. Had not been at work for an hour when hooking up a piece of equipment to my tractor I smashed my right hand breaking the ring finger and splitting it open like a smashed grape. Ouch was one of the terms I used. Banged up the rest of it pretty well, broke the finger in two places. Naturally I am right handed. Spent the next 4 hours at Co. medical and having them send me to a hand specalist. Have to go back and see him again Friday. No stitches yet as hand is to swollen. So much for being able to do a re-build on a tilt column I bought for my 71 4x4. Guess will have to put that off for awhile. Damn, Damn, Damn !!!

Bumped my broken finger while jump starting the car at quitting time. Ouch, again !!! Guess will let my son change battery for me when he gets home from work.

To much stuff around here to do to be banged up like this. Just starting to re-store my 71 Chevelle SS. Re-modeling the house, two acres of ground and trees to care for, etc....

Guess I just needed to vent a bit, mad at my-self for banging up my hand doing something I have been doing since '87 .

Took forever to type this, Damn, Damn, Damn !!!

Been there, in fact I am there right now! You have my sympathies. Just remember it can always get worse, so be careful.

BTDT, guy. The finger I cut off in July is back at about 90% or so, now. I can honestly say I feel your pain: the finger set my truck project back by almost a month (hope to be done next week (at least as far as I can go this year).

Vent away!

The pain in my right thumb, that I scraped the skin off of while working on my Pete, just went away!! It is truely nothing compared to the pain you are in!! Sorry to hear about the finger!

Talking

Ironhorse,

Sorry about your injury, that must really hurt. It reminds me of when my ring finger was trapped between the transmission and frame, (almost tore it off since the tranny was hooked to an NP 205).

I am sure a lot of the guys on the board feel your pain as there is a lot of empathy here. Good luck on getting well!

If you were closer, I would be happy to pick up your column and go through it for you, (NC).

Take care and don't bump your finger anymore.

Jim

Throb...Throb...
All of a sudden the flat battery wasn't such a big deal I bet! I'd take a hundred flat batterys over a crushed finger. Nasty.

Sorry to hear about your hand. I once had my hood slam shut on mine while I was under the car. Latch was inside and I was the only one home. But thats a different story.

Hope yours is a simple break and that you're back to normal ASAP.

Thanks guys for the words of encouragement and concern. I guess mostly I am mad at myself for injuring my hand doing something I've done for so many years and so many times before.

Guess I have to put it all in perspective. I have several buddies from my days in Uncle Sam's service who are on "The Wall" in Wash. D.C. who would tell me to "suck it up, don't mean nuthin' " They would trade places with me any time. Damn, I miss those guys still.

Thanks again for your concern. I love this board !
