ok so tires for a 16.5

So I have a 3/4 ton with the original16.5 wheels and I need new tires BADLY!I called all the tire shops in town and find out that they no longer manufacture 16.5 tires! So does anyone else have this issue and what have u done? I would really like to keep my original wheels because I love the look! And tires at a junk yard are over priced and very low tred hear so that's an option I've worked to death.Any advice would be great. Thank u

Re: ok so tires for a 16.5

Tirerack has them listed and a couple even have decent street tread.

If you need tires bad I would atleast get a set of 16's as they often came in similar styles. Or go 17 which is going to be the new standard if not already so.

Re: ok so tires for a 16.5

I swapped my old 3/4 ton to 16" out of a junkyard.
PO had swapped 16" split rims, as he had a supply and the means to work with the rims.

2 of my "new" rims did come off a Ford.

Anything special about your rims?

They can be found, but it won't be quick.
BFG still makes All Terrains in 16.5, but it is done in limited supply.

My friend went to a tire shop and they found them in Colorado for him.

Re: ok so tires for a 16.5

There are a few companies still making 16.5 tires, but they're usually specialty-tires, which means specialty-$$$.

The hardcore offroad crowd still uses 16.5, but the vast majority of them are larger tires. For example, Tirerack.com lists only 5 tires for 16.5 rims, and the smallest size is 33x12.5.

National Tire and Wheel lists 232 tires for 16 inch, 203 tires for 17 inch, and only a whopping 50 tires for 16.5. And of those fifty, none of them are smaller than 33, and the cheapest is $200 per tire.

They're still out there in the larger sizes, but I think the days of smaller, cheap tires for the average commuter just gone. You might still be able to find some, but it's looking like things are only going to get worse, I think eventually you're going to be forced to change.

If its a 4x4 and has some lift on it these are recaps https://www.treadwright.com/p-81-37x...d-dog-m-t.aspx and http://www.100dollarman.com/tires.html has 36 inch and 37 inch hummer tires.

Re: ok so tires for a 16.5

I'm in the same boat. Took the truck in this past weekend and got the call that two were 16.5". I'm in the hunt for some 16" wheels as we speak. Hoping that the swap meet will have some this weekend. If not, I'll be hitting the yards around here looking as well.

Firestone makes a Transforce HT in a 9.50x16.5, its a nice street tire. Tirerack.com lists them

Re: ok so tires for a 16.5

I had a 1983 HD 3/4 ton 4x4 and ran 33x12.5x16.5 and they fit pretty good. only rubbed a little on slight incline turns.

My old 3/4T C20 had 31x9.5x16.5's on it. They were BFG's and I bought them new at Tirerack. That was in 2005..... They were awsome!
