The '86 finally came home today!
Finally got to bring home my 1986 Custom Deluxe 4x4 today. 3 speed manual tranny with a granny low. This was my brother's truck and now it's mine and I can't wait to start fixin' her up. Not much body work needed beyond a little surface rust and one bad spot below the driver's door. Inside needs some serious updating, but mechanically it's sound. Everything works and has been well maintained. I'm going to bring her back to her former glory and keep her in the family for (hopefully) a very long time to be enjoyed by my kids and grandkids one day.

Next I'll tune it up. (Plugs, wires, distributor, belts, hoses) After that I'll get a tool box. I am holding out for a Cam-Locker hopefully. After that I'll start fixing little odd and end things and whatever pops up. Longterm I want to make it like brand spanking new, but not heavily accessorized at all. I'm thinking eventually a navy or similar color single stage paint and will either keep the tan interior or convert to grey/silver whatever its referred to. No carpet. I want the floor boards rhino lined as well as the bed eventually. Basically, I want it to have the appearance of the ultimate work truck from 1986 because I'll be using this truck for whatever I'm working on. Whether that be my brother's farm, my own, anything in between, and also serving as my daily driver. I don't want anything flashy, just something that when chevy truck guys see it they know everything on it has been done right and taken care of and they can appreciate the simplicity of its "look." |
