Help!! 35 degrees BTC

Hey everyone, worked on 350 small block with delco remy distributor and my timing says it is 35 degrees before top center. I bought timer from Advance Auto since it has been backfiring through the carb when under load. If I try to get it around 15 it will stall. Any advice? It has cam and is camel hump. Thanks, David

Re: Help!! 35 degrees BTC

The first thing to do is to make sure that your timing mark is correct. Take #1 spark plug out, roll the engine so that the piston is at top dead center. Check the timing marks and make sure that they line up. If not, remark them. I have found that with a performance cam, they like a lot of advance. I set the initial at 10-15 BTC, connect the vacuum advance to manifold vacuum. Install an advance kit in the distributor. That should work. Run premium fuel with octane boost if you have any detonation problems. The 35 number is for total advance.

What advance distributor kit are you using in your distributor?
